Lily:
"Black!" I scream, filled with rage, "What have you done!". I turn around and look for Remus. He is the most sensible of the lot, however, that isn't exactly hard. He looks at me, "Deep breaths Lily, deep breaths." he says in a calming voice. After taking a minute to collect myself I ask him "How can you be so calm?". "I've been friends with these idiots for almost five years," he shrugs, "I guess I'm used to strange and stupid things happening around me.". "Hey!" Potter says, in mock hurt. He then proceeds to pretend to wipe his eyes, "I thought we were closer than that Moons.". Remus then bursts out laughing. Ugh, I am surrounded by idiots, in a different time, with a broken time turner.
I want to hit something.
I let the urge pass. 'So', I think to myself, 'I saw the time turner spin 18 times. That means that we are either 18 years in the past or 18 years in the future.'. I look around. 'We are still in Hogwarts which is good. The best thing to do would probably be to go and see the current headmaster'. I suggest this to the boys and they all agree with me. If I'm being honest, Black looks relieved that I haven't hexed him yet. Oh, just wait. I will DEFINITELY be getting my revenge. Just not right now, there are more pressing manners at hand. We begin to walk towards where Dumbledore's office is in our time. Oh, I really hope that he is Headmaster, it will make things much easier. As we approach the gargoyle we realise that we don't know the password. I decide to assume that it's Dumbledore in the office. I know that his password is always some kind of muggle sweet. And so the guessing began...
"Sherbert Lemon" was Remus' guess. When that failed Potter had a go.
"Dip Dab" he says. I was actually surprised that he knew the names of any muggle sweets. However, it wasn't right.
Black guessed "Drumstick Lollies". It was incorrect but I was once again surprised.
I then guessed "Fruit Salads". Incorrect. "Twix?". Incorrect. "Anglo Bubbly?". This was my last guess. The gargoyle moves out of the way and the stairs appear. I was shocked and happy. "Come on, let's go up" I say. We slowly descend the stairs, each of us silently hoping that Dumbledore is Headmaster and praying that we don't get into too much trouble. I swear, if these idiots ruin my detention-free record, I will curse them into the next century.
As we reach the door, nobody seems too excited to open it. I decide that as a prefect, I should do it. I step up to the door and tentatively knock on it. Dumbledore's voice comes from inside it, "Come in". We all breathe a sigh of relief and open the door to enter. Dumbledore looks up. He seems a little bit shocked, but not as much as I was expecting. "Ah, so today is the day." he says. I give him a puzzled look. "I've been expecting you" he says, to my complete and utter surprise. He noticed all of our jaws drop, and then chuckles, "Yes, it's not everyday that five students go missing for a while". He looks at us. He then says, "I just need you to confirm who you are.".
I go first, "Lily Evans, sir. I'm a fifth year Gryffindor and a prefect.". "Very well Miss Evans" Dumbledore says. He looks at me oddly, as if he hasn't seen me in a while, but I brush it off.
Potter goes next, "James Potter, sir. Fifth year Gryffindor and Quidditch Captain.". He then gasps, as though realising something. "Oh, no," he says suddenly, "how much of the Quidditch season do I miss sir?". He looks frantic and worried when Dumbledore replies, "Only one match, against Hufflepuff. Jordan Bell took over as captain for that match. You were back in time to play Ravenclaw and Slytherin.". Potter looks relieved. You can tell that Quidditch means a lot to him. It was quite cute, the passion that he shows for the sport, his eyes lighting up whenever it is mentioned and his facial expressions contorting into an expression of bliss. Wait Lily, did you just think of Potter as cute? The James Potter?! What has the world come to? It isn't a cute expression on his face, it's one of pure arrogance....right? Anyways, moving on.
Black then starts, "Sirius Black, sir. Fifth year proud Gryffindor and beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.". I was quite surprised as a look of loathing and hatred flashed in Dumbledore's face before it quickly turned back to a regular expression. I think I was the only one that noticed this however. Dumbledore nodded at Black and moved on to Remus.
"Remus Lupin, sir. Fifth year Gryffindor and prefect alongside Lily Evans." Remus states clearly. "Good, good," Dumbledore says, "Now you", he says, looking at Peter.
"P-p-p-peter Pettigrew, s-sir. Fifth year G-Gryffindor" Peter stutters. I pity him, he's not really good at anything. All of the other 'marauders' have got something that they are good at. Whether it be Remus' smarts, Sirius' charm and talent for trouble or James' good Quidditch skills (although I would never say this to him - no need to inflate that ego anymore), they all have something that makes them special, unique and likeable.
Dumbledore then nods. I take this chance to say, "Sorry, sir, but could you please tell us what year we are in. I saw the time turner spin 18 times so I'm pretty sure that that means we are either 18 years into the past or 18 years into the future. We come from the year 1975.". I state this all clearly, albeit rather quickly. "Very well picked up Miss Evans," Dumbledore compliments. "You are 18 years into the future, the year is now 1993. We will try to get you back to your own time as quickly as possible however until then you will be forced to stay here. We will keep you in the same year, into the same house as you are in your own time, and I will require you to learn as you would've then as well. You will, however, need to alter your appearances as to not cause alarm among students who may know you. You will also need to change your names. I will inform Professor McGonagall of your real identities as she is the Head of Gryffindor house but no one else will know. Just try to blend in please. I will be telling students and teachers that you were previously being home schooled but came here in order to do your OWLs. Any questions?".
We all shake our heads, meaning no. Dumbledore then says, "Right, time to alter your appearances. Miss Evans, what do you now want to look like?". I think for a minute, and then say, "Can I have shoulder-length brown hair, and dark blue eyes.". "Very well Miss Evans." Dumbledore says, making the changes.
Potter goes next. "Can I have light brown hair, the same length as mine and blue eyes please sir?" he states. Dumbledore obliges and suddenly Potter isn't Potter anymore. It's actually quite strange because he looks very different and yet similar at the same time. We both kept the same build as before, so he towers over me. He also has quite broad, muscular shoulders I noticed. Wait, why was I looking at Potter? Eugh Lily, catch a grip on yourself. I shift my eyes away from Potter as Black states what he now wants to look like.
"Can I keep my hair, but have brown eyes and tanned skin please sir?" Black asks, looking hopeful about keeping his hair. Dumbledore curtly nods, his eyes cold. Was something wrong? I decided not to say anything, but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't at all curious. The other boys once again didn't seem to notice as they were too busy marvelling in Black's new look. He also looks quite different and yet still familiar. It is a very strange situation.
Remus and Peter do the same. Remus asks for black hair and green eyes, and Peter asks for blonde hair and brown eyes.
As we prepare to leave, Dumbledore says to us "Wait a minute, have you decided what to change your names to?".
I think for a minute, and then decide on one. "Holly Williams" I say. I've always liked the name Holly, it reminds me of Christmas and is also a 'nature name'. Williams is also a regular surname, so I should fit in well.
Potter says, "Thomas Alexander". I thought it was actually a rather nice name, not what I was expecting to pick but that was a good thing. I ignored Black's input ("Oh, say old chap, that is a simply spiffing name. How very posh of you!").
Dumbledore then turns to Black. "Mr Black, what do you want to change your name to?" he says. "Derek Grey", Black replies confidently. Potter rolls his eyes, "Black to Grey - how very creative of you.". Black just stuck his tongue out in response to this. Oh, the maturity of these boys. The day they actually begin to act their age and not like immature four year olds will be one of the greatest days of my life.
Dumbledore ignores their bickering (really though - could they stop arguing like an old married couple for one second?) and moves on to Remus. "Mr Lupin," he says, "What would you like your name to be?". Remus replies, "Ben Thompson". Dumbledore nods and turns to Peter, who says, "Carter Campbell.".
Dumbledore nods and says, "Very well. Welcome back to Hogwarts. There are just a couple of things that you should know. Mr Lupin, just this year I have taken you on as our Defence Against The Dark Arts Professor. Do not tell him who you are. Also, try not to act too surprised when you meet any children of your classmates, as you undoubtedly will. Also, Severus Snape is the Potions master here. You will treat him with the same amount of respect as you will any of the other teachers, is that clear? I have called the Gryffindor prefect from this time, Angelina Johnson, to show you to the Fat Lady. Oh, I believe that's her now. Ok thank you, and I hope that you enjoy your time here. You may leave.".
We all said hello to Angelina and murmured our thanks to Dumbledore as we left his office.
This is going to be weird.
Dumbledore:
It was strange, seeing all my old students again. Lily and James look so young, so innocent, so unaware of the horrors they are yet to face. I decided not to tell them about their future. Why? I would like to see them work it out on their own. When I saw Sirius Black, I couldn't help but loathe him. This boy, this innocent boy who is full of life, betrayed two of the people standing beside him, killed another, and left the last alone and friendless. It's all his fault. I hate him.
Breaking out of my thoughts, I walk over to my fireplace and place some floo powder in it. I call for Minerva McGonagall.
As she enters, I can tell that she is rather curious as to why I have summoned her. "Take a seat, Minerva." I say, taking one myself. She sits on the opposite side of my desk. "Good evening, Albus." she says.
I offer her a cup of tea which she accepts. "Minerva," I say, "I have just had a few visitors from the year 1975. I'm sure that you can guess who they are.". She gasps. "James, Lily, Peter, Remus and, and Black!". She cried out the last bit, undoubtedly thinking exactly what I had just a minute ago. "Oh, Albus! I, I can't believe it!" she said, calming down a bit. "What are we going to do?" she then said. She was now fully calm and back to her regular strict teacher mode. "I have changed their appearances and names. They shall remain as fifth year Gryffindors and have been instructed to act totally normally.". "How much do they know?" she asked. If there is one thing I know about Minerva McGonagall, it is that she is a very inquisitive woman and makes sure that if a job is being done, it is being done right. "They know about Remus Lupin becoming a Professor, the same with Severus Snape. However, they do not know about Sirius Black or the deaths of James, Lily and Peter. I think that they will figure that out for themselves. I am trusting you and only you with this information Minerva, no one else can know. Is that okay?".
"Yes, Albus," she says, "I suppose I should be leaving then.". "Yes, Minerva, you may. I will just tell you their new names. Lily Evans is now Holly Williams. James Potter is now Thomas Alexander. Sirius Black is now Derek Grey. Remus Lupin is now Ben Thompson. Peter Pettigrew is now Carter Campbell." I say. She nods and then leaves.
I hope nothing goes wrong.
