I pull an extra sweater around me until my tent flap opens.
Jasper freezes in surprise, "I thought you would still be asleep."
"I woke up after you left the first time...do you enjoy watching me sleep or something?" I ask, stepping out into the snow. Jasper chuckles, "It was either that or stand out in a blizzard."
I smile and look over to Bella's tent, Edward watches as her and Jacob return, Seth was there. Jacob walks by them and over to Jasper and I. The first thing he does is hug me, "You feeling better?"
"How did you know I wasn't feeling good?" I ask. Jacob grins, "Let see, I could smell your puke before the blizzard hit."
My eyes widen, and I put a hand in front of my mouth trying to smell my own breath, was it that bad, or was it his wolf nose. He's messing with me, I shove him back, and he laughs, "You know I'm terrified of heights!"
"It's just a joke, E."
"This isn't a joke, Jacob," states Jasper, the two scowls at each other again. Was it because Jacob was trying to protect me? Or is Jasper trying to prove a point? Jake couldn't possibly know how I feel for Jasper, so that's out of the question.
"Of course, it's not, my sisters, no joke."
"Then be my guest, lead the way down the mountain," suggest Jasper holding his hand out. Jacob slaps it away "No way Bloodsucker." he spits, Jasper looks to me, and I give him a comforting smile "Go...Just be careful."
He nods, "I promise."
And with that, he speeds off, and I can only stare at where he was.
"God, you look like a lovesick puppy, but that would make sense, wouldn't it?"
My gaze snaps to Jacob, "You know!"
"You told Leah, she has a connection idiot! The whole pack knows!" he exclaims, oh shit! Does the whole whole whole pack know I like Jasper...a vampire? And I'm part of that pack? And is the girl who loves the vampire?
I'm screwed.
"E, you can't be serious! First Bella's getting married and then you!"
"Bella's getting married?"
"NOT THE POINT!!!" he screams, he's agitated because he found out Bella and Edward are getting married? SO HE'S TAKING IT OUT ON ME!!! I shake my head, "Jake, it doesn't matter."
"Yes, it does!"
"No...He likes another girl."
Jacob's face contorts to one of anger, and he grabs my arms "He told you this!"
"I figured it out, and he said he had a crush...sorta. Okay, he hasn't disagreed that I've said he has a crush...either way, he likes another girl." I admit sadly. Jacob huff running a hand through his hair. "I'm gonna kill him!!!!"
"JACOB!!!"
"You haven't told him? If you do and he breaks your heart, nothing stops the pack from tearing him to shreds!!!"
"J! Stop, you don't know what you're doing!"
"Yes, I do! I'm making sure a Bloodsucker doesn't break my sister's heart!" he shouts, phasing and pouncing down the mountain. I rush to the edge, "JACOB!!!"
He was gone, and guilt hung over my head.
If I ever told Jasper about my feeling, he would turn me down, and the pack would be allowed to kill him.
OVER A CRUSH!
Seth crawls over and whines getting my attention, he leads me over to Bella and Edward. I give them a smile, "Congrats."
Bella takes my hand. "Thanks, but...we heard you and Jacob fighting," she says. I look to Edward, who probably read Jacob's mind, "Ed, you can't let Jake hurt Jasper just because he doesn't like me."
He smiles "I don't think I'll need to-"
What does that mean? Edward stares off, Bella puts a hand to his chest "Edward?"
"The fights starting, Jacob and Jasper just got there."
He was focused on reading Seth's connection to the pack, communicating that us "Jasper back off you can't be everywhere at-watch out!" he shouts as if he's in the battle himself, I look from Seth to Edward "Is Jasper alright? Edward?!"
"Don't let them protect each other, good, go around..."
Suddenly Edward stops and blinks. I look around, and Seth was frozen as well. The two boys share a tenses look, "Seth, go." commands Edward. Seth nods, bolting away to hiding as Edward takes a defensive stance.
"She's close. I can hear her thoughts. She knew we weren't there, but she caught my scent. She knew you'd be with me." he says to Bella, "She found us?"
"She's not alone."
Just then, a boy steps out of the woods, not any boy, Riley.
Edward puts his hand out, "Riley... Listen to me. Victoria's just using you to distract me. But she knows I'll kill you."
Riley hesitates.
"In fact, she'll be glad she doesn't have to deal with you anymore." finishes Edward. Then Victoria emerges from the woods, forming a triangle with Riley "Don't listen, Riley. I told you about their mind tricks."
"I can read her mind, so I know what she thinks of you."
"He's lying."
Her red hair almost matched her eyes, the last time I saw her, she caught a baseball, and now she was out for blood.
Our blood.
My blood.
"She only created you and this army to avenge her true mate, James. It's the only thing she cares about. Not you."
Victoria's eyes hold a worried look that Edward's word may have swayed Riley "There's only you. You know that."
"Think about it. You're from Forks, you know the area. That's the only reason she chose you. She doesn't love you."
"Riley... Don't let him do this to us. You know I love you."
But I know.
I know that when you genuinely believe and love someone, you'll be anything, do anything for them no matter was the cost. I know this to be the truth when Riley smirks, "You're dead."
Riley charges toward Edward, who doesn't move because Seth leaps from the cliff above to land on Riley, taking a chunk out of Riley's hand. Riley roars with fury and pain as Seth circles back for another attack.
Oh, thank god! Bella stays with Edward while I go to town with Seth.
He holds down Riley and bites at his shoulder while I begin to gather bunches of wood and throwing them into a pile. Seth howls, and I see he's starting to struggle, "I KNOW!" I shout, stepping back from the wood.
Just then, Riley kicks Seth hard against the cliff.
Riley spins towards me, making me gulp, shit. He inhales a breath of air "Victoria was right from here I smell nothing." he begins but then takes a couple of steps back "But here, you smell like a dream."
"I'd be flattered if you weren't trying to kill me," I say, trying to mask my fear. Riley smirks, "I can only imagine how you taste."
He rushes me pushing me to the ground, my hands intertwine with his, and to my shock, I seem to be holding him off a little. His fangs snap to close to my face for my comfort. A blur knocks Riley off of me and pushes me back into Bella.
Edward stands in front of us once more as Riley joins Victoria's battle providing her with the tiny advantage she needs. Edward rushes forward but Riley tackles him to his knees and Victoria grabs Edward from behind.
I look to Bella, but instead of worry I see clarity she kneels down, grabs a rock, and plunges the shard downward, stabbing her arm!! Blood immediately flows dripping bright red onto the white snow!!!
WHAT WAS SHE DOING?!
Riley spins around the blood and my scent adding more to the wild fire in him, it was even enough to make Victoria distracted.
Just like the story Billy told us, the third wife sacrifice, but Bella and I aren't going to die because they would never let us. Edward seizes the moment, flipping Victoria over his head, across the clearing and into a tree breaking it in two.
Riley stumbles back in fright to the leadge where Seth, recovered, leaps up, tackles Riley and drags him screaming into the woods "Victoria! Victoria!"
Victoria throws him a glance but pays no mind, it was sick, tricking a man who loved you and using him as a puppet.
Both her and Maria were sick!
I turn to Bella "We'll take care of Riley, get a fire started for Edward."
She nods and I head off in the direction Seth went. Heading to the ledge I see my pile of wood and Seth once again clawing and holding down Riley. He howls at me and I begin to bunch up the wood together "I'm working as fast as I can."
I reach into my pocket and pull out a lighter, but because of Riley's flailing he kicks it out of my hand to the edge.
Damn!
I dive for it and grab it before I heads off the edge, I quickly back up from the edge and sit on my knees. Then I hear a crash, my head turns to the side slightly to see Seth about to pounce, and Riley was gone.
Suddenly my arms are force behind my back and my head is leaned to the side. Riley doesn't waste a second before biting down into my neck causing me to let out a shierk of pain "AAHHH!"
The fangs priced my skin as if knives and Riley clearly took pleasure from my pain.
But just the second as he bit Riley was thrown off of me. I slap a hand over the crook of my neck and whirl around to see Seth, with a knew found strength, bite off Riley's head and paw off his arms before throwing them onto the wood.
I hold a hand out and Seth pauses, we wait and I was petrified. Riley bit me...why isn't anything happening? I should be changing or withering in pain, the only pain I felt was a left over sting from when Riley bit down.
Okay?
I look to Seth "I'm fine? I'm fine...I guess you pulled Riley off before any venom could touch me." I reason. Peering at Riley's dismembered body on the wood I ignight the lighter and throw it on, watching the immortal going up in flames.
I fumble to sit and lean my arms on my knees, head hanging between them...It was over, I was alive even after being bitten even if for a split second. If anything I survived the worse case scenario, being biten.
Had the marks to prove it, dang the bite marks!
I let my hair down and pull my sweater up, at least my hair was long enough to cover it. Seth circles around and nudges my side, I softly smile and pet his head "I'm okay...I'll get take out of what ever you want Seth you saved my life."
Just then his head perks up and he nudges for me to move "Seth what's wrong?"
"E!!!"
I turn my head to see Bella not far off "YOU AND SETH NEED TO GO!!! IT'S THE VOLTURI!!!"
The...Volturi?
"Shit! If they find out I was bitten they'll do the change themselves!" I exclaim, Seth starts off down the path and I follow him, I could care less about the mountain I just had to get the pack out of here!
A massive fire burns as the Cullens and the wolves hurriedly drag what's left of the newborns to it for the incineration. A purple-black smoke rises as I step into the clearing with Seth, out of breath.
Edward and Bella race out not a second behind.
The others spot us, but my eyes instantly lock with Jasper. Dispite begging short of breath I rush forward as fast as I can, as dose he. Meeting in the middle I throw my arms around him "Thank god!" I shout.
"Riley?" he ask.
"Gone, burnt, dead, Seth and I took care of it." I explain. He smiles and begins to move my hair behind me ear. I grab his hand to stop him from seeing the bite mark, playing it off as holding his hand.
"E you and the pack have to leave." says Alice, I nod steping back from Jasper and scratch the side of my neck, I needed to get onmint on this thing. Carlisle walks up to me "The pack needs to leave. The Volturi won't honor a truce with the werewolves." he says but then eyes me, his eyes drifting to my neck "Eve are you-"
Suddenly Jacob's wolf emerges from the woods as Leah in her wolf form was cornering one last male newborn who was hiding. The male newborn maneuvers out of her way, spins and grabs her, fiercely, but Jacob leaps on the newborn, tackling him, but the male newborn gets his arms around Jacob and crushes him having Jacob howl in agony!!!
"JACOB!!!" I scream. The pack instantly pounces on the newborn. Edward, Carlisle, and I rush to Jacob's side in his human form, grotesquely twisted and broken, barely able to breathe. Carlisle quickly examines him as he writhes in pain "The bones on the right half of his body are shattered."
My eyes widen as I grip Jacobs arm holding him down "Shatterd!? W-What do we do?" I ask as the rest of the pack, in human form, race up.
"Jacob, you idiot. I had it." fights Leah.
"I need to set the bones before his accelerated healing kicks in. It's already starting." states Carlisle sadly. Edward puts a hand on my shoulder "We need to get him out of here. We're not gonna win a fight with the Volturi."
Okay, okay, I nod "We'll take him back to dad."
"I'll be there as soon as I can." promises Carlisle. I step back as the pack lifts him and carries him into the forest. I look back to Jasper who nodded for me to go. I take off after the pack into the forest.
