" Oh my God." I moan out loud.
" This is amazing." Tyler moans as well.
" Open your mouth wider, you'll get a better taste once your mouth is filled." he instructs.
I obey and open my mouth wider to get a better taste. He wasn't wrong. It tastes absolutely amazing. Why haven't we tried this before?
After swallowing I look back at Tyler. Once he sees my face and the clear satisfaction written across it he bursts out laughing.
" You have a little -" he says pointing to the left corner of his mouth.
I roll my eyes. Of course this would get messy. If it was that good I'm not complaining about the mess. I stretch my thumb out and wipe at the corner of my mouth. Bringing my thumb back I notice the white liquid on it and suck if off from my thumb. Looking back up at Tyler I see him gulp.
" That was hot." he chokes out.
" Seriously? You find me licking mayo off from my thumb hot?" I question as I dig further into the massive burger in front of me.
Tyler chuckles as he continues on eating his own burger. After we shared our moment back at Tyler's place we realized that we're pretty hungry after all the drama that happened during the night. So we jumped into Tyler's car and he brought me over to this diner a little out of town. I was skeptical to get into the car with him seeing as he had been drinking more than I have but he surprisingly didn't get us into an accident. Tyler decided on ordering for me seeing as he comes here regularly and he wanted me to try their House Special gourmet double stack burger. It was huge. I almost started crying when I took my first bite.
So here we are, two college students dressed as Magic Mike and a glitter bomb, sitting in an isolated diner, eating as if their lives depend on it.
" I'm s-so full." I say exhausted from having to bite through all that food. I move my plate that has a few fries and onion rings on it to my right and take one big gulp from my diet coke. You gotta stay healthy.
You literally just ate a burger, fries and fried onion rings. Drinking a diet coke isn't going to help at this point my conscience argues.
" I would say this was a great first date." Tyler chuckles as he motiones for the waiter to come by with the bill.
"This is not a date." I deadpan.
We are just two individuals enjoying food together.
" It's a date. Trust me, our second date is going to put this one to shame." he winks as he pulls out his wallet and places a few bills on the table.
Second date? Hold up. This wasn't even a first date. Why would I want our first date to be in a diner at 1 am while dressed in Halloween costumes?
So you are admitting that you want a first date with him.
Shut up.
" Keep on dreaming." I smirk as we stop in front of Tyler's car.
" Kissing you was a dream come true. My other dreams though aren't as innocent -"
" Okay so where to now?" I chip in before he can finish his sentence.
I hear him laugh as he unlocks his car and climbs into the driver's seat.
We haven't really talked about what happened back at his place. We kissed. I would be lying if I said I didn't like it. I liked it more than I should have. When did I become such a girl?
" So uhm I have a question." Tyler speaks up after a few minutes of silence. He keeps his eyes on the road as I look over at him confused.
Oh no.
" I know this is early and all..."
God no. Please don't ask me what I think you're about to ask me.
" And I don't want to freak you out..."
Too late. I'm already freaking out. We kissed once and now he's asking me this. It's moving too fast. Red flag!
" I don't want to be your girlfriend." I blurt out.
The car falls silent. Once I register what I said my eyes bulge out. That didn't come out right.
" I-I mean I'm not ready to be your girlfriend." I try and explain. Why am I so nervous?
" We only kissed once and then we stuffed our faces with food, which was not a date by the way, and I just-"
I'm cut off by Tyler's laughter. Why is he laughing? He continues on laughing while I just sit awkwardly. I fucked this up for sure.
" You thought - you thought I was-" he couldn't finish his sentence as laughter erupted from his body again.
Now I feel embarrassed.
He takes his eyes off from the road for a second to look at my confused expression.
" I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend. " he finally manages to say.
A feeling of relief washes over me. I still embarrassed myself. Asshole.
I give him a slight punch on the arm for making me feel this stupid. He continues to laugh for a few seconds before looking back at me.
" My parent's 30th anniversary is next weekend and they are hosting this whole event thing to celebrate. I was told to bring someone along so I thought..." he explains.
He wants me to meet his parents? I really wish he'd rather asked me to be his girlfriend now that I know what his question is. I'm not ready to meet his parents. I don't think I'll ever be ready. Parents don't like me and that's a fact.
I look back up in his hopeful eyes. Those damn eyes. It's really hard to resist when he's giving me that look. Damn it.
" Please. It'll be fun." he smirks.
I sigh.
" Fine." I finally agree.
Tyler falls back into his seat once he hears my answer. I chuckle as I watch the relief flow over him.
" Thank God. You saved me from being stuck with my cousins."
Reality finally settles in. Not only am I meeting his parents, I'm meeting his family.
***
" You're meeting his parents?" Emily gasps from her bed.
I nod my head in reply. I still can't believe I agreed to that last night. I blame it on the few drinks I had. Yes that's it.
" Why though?" she questions out of curiosity.
Emily pulls this weird face when she's deep in thought. With her makeup smudged under her eyes and her hair a curly mess from the party last night I can't help but laugh at the sight in front of me. Emily isn't one to look like a mess. She's prim and propper and her appearance is always on point.
" I don't know. We only kissed once and the next thing -"
" YOU KISSED?" she freaks out.
I stare at her wide eyed. I did expect this to happen after it slipped out of my mouth. I just wish it didn't happen so soon. Now I have to spend the rest of my Sunday afternoon listening to her planning my wedding.
" No I mean we missed...the - the chicken?"
Dumbass.
Emily looks at me blankly. Of course she doesn't believe me. I wouldn't believe me either. I need to work on making up better excuses. I'm starting to lose my touch.
" I can't believe you guys finally kissed. " she says dreamily as she flops down onto her bed dramatically.
I roll my eyes but chuckle at how happy she is about the kiss. I still don't know how I feel about it. We haven't kissed again and I'm grateful for that because I need time to collect my thoughts. For the last few months something as simple as a kiss never bothered me but now, it's bothering me.
You like him.
I shake my head to clear my thoughts and focus back on Emily. Something is off about her. She isn't as bubbly today, maybe it's just her hangover.
She was wasted when I dragged her out of the frat house after getting back from the diner. I was tired and I wanted nothing more to get back home. I didn't know where Ashton disappeared off to but luckily Tyler managed to carry her over to Ashton's car while I went to grab my purse, which contained Ashton's keys, from Tyler's room. Thank God it was still there. I didn't even feel the tiniest bit of regret from leaving Ashton at the party. He shouldn't have left Emily to fend for herself. Getting Emily to her bed was the hardest of it all. I basically had to drag her by her arm up the flight of stairs. It wasn't an easy job but I eventually got her into bed.
" Is everything okay Em?" I question from my desk as I finish up some work for my classes tomorrow.
The sun was now starting to set and all Emily has done the whole day was lay in her bed and watch series on her laptop. She didn't even react when Ashton stopped by to pick up his car and I was left to deal with him. Her smile wasn't evident on her face and it looked as if she was about to burst out into tears. I think back to her bruised wrists, her nightmare and now her foul mood.
" I'm sorry what?" she asks after a few minutes of just staring into the wall.
" I asked if everything was okay?" I question giving her a worried glance.
She nods her head before focusing her attention back on her laptop, silently telling me to not question further.
I was about to question further when I heard my phone go off. Looking over at the ID caller I saw it was mom.
Why is she calling me now all of the sudden? I haven't heard a single word from her since she left my dorm a couple of weeks ago. Same goes for dad. Nada.
" Hello?" I sounded unsure as I picked up the phone.
" Allison, how are you?" mom's voice stings me as if a needled has entered my body.
" I'm g-good." I stutter.
" Staying out of trouble?" she questions.
I have been waiting for that one.
" Yes mom. " I sigh as I stand up from my desk and walk out of the dorm to get a little more privacy. I don't know where this conversation is going to head and it's best that I keep Emily from worrying.
" That's good. You're still coming over for Thanksgiving right?"
I almost forgot about Thanksgiving. It's only 2 weeks away. I promised mom I'd be there before leaving for college. Will dad be there? I doubt he'll even call before that.
" It's not like I have a choice. " I bit back.
I know I'm coming off harsh. When I'm talking to mom I can't help but think back to all the things she said to me and how she doesn't make an effort to check up on me. I think back to dad and the fact that I haven't seen him since I started college. He's supposed to be the more caring parent. He's supposed to be here for me. He's supposed to be the hero I believed he was when I was little. I still see him as my hero but heroes don't just disappear off from the face of the earth, especially in a difficult time like this.
" Allison." mom warns. " I want you to bring along that boy that you were with. I didn't get a chance to properly meet him." she continues before I can cut in.
Tyler. Shit. She wants me to bring Tyler with to Thanksgiving?
" Mom-"
" No excuses. His family is also welcome if he doesn't want to be separated. I want to meet him. That's final Allison. " mom interjects.
It's pointless to start up an argument with her now. She wants to meet Tyler and only the good Lord above will know why. I don't know how I'm going to convince him to tag along. Somewhere deep down inside I want him to tag along. I don't know how I'm going to contain my anger when it's just me and my mom. He has his way to calm me down.
" I'll see what I can do." I reply.
I'm meeting Tyler's parents so he might as well meet mine. I just hope his family isn't planning anything big for Thanksgiving. I know most family's like to get together and celebrate the holiday. My family is too disfunctional for that to happen.
" Let me know. Goodnight Allison." she greets.
" Goodnight mom." I greet before ending the call.
This is the only reason she called. She wants me to drag Tyler along so that she can judge him from closeup. She wants to see the type of people I surround myself with and she's definitely going to have something to say about that. She didn't call to check up on how I'm doing. Even after knowing about my nightmares that returned. They don't appear much seeing as I'm back on my medication but mom wouldn't know that because she didn't ask. She never asks about my wellbeing.
It hurts to realize how far we've drifted. Our relationship was never like this. We did everything together. Baking, shopping, gossiping. She knew everything that was going on in my life even though I was annoyed at times because of it. She knew who I was.
Now she barley recognizes her own daughter.
