Kim Junmyeon's P.O.V:
“Sir, I have also cleared the bill for the items you sent for Miss Kim Jisoo yesterday.”
I always made sure to train my employees enough so they could understand not to expose the company secrets infront of someone else. At that moment, I wanted nothing but to fire my most trusted employee who ran errands for me I could not trust other people with.
It was not the company secret though it was a personal secret.
Flashback:
“Mr. Lee, are the trainees regular? You know how much I value time so make sure they are regular and punctual.” I told Mr. Lee who was keeping up with my pace. It was one of the less busier days in office, so I wanted to monitor the sessions. Mr. Lee was accompanying me to the studio.
“Yes, sir. They all are very regular and on time. Today, only 1 trainee is absent.” Mr. Lee informed me.
“Okay, let us go and see if the sessions are going alright.”
We were passing through the hallways when I saw a girl with her back towards us talking on the phone. She must be a trainee, I thought. Since my employees knew they could not go around and talk on their phones anywhere they liked. But I was a bit lenient with the trainees as they were not that familiar with our company’s rules.
When we were near her, I noticed she was Miss Eva who was talking on the phone. She had not noticed us yet. I walked passed her but something immediately caught my attention.
“That is such a relief. I have told our teachers that you were sick, so don’t worry. I will come as quickly as I can and bring lunch for you, Okay? Take care.”
Who was she on the phone with? I was almost sure she was talking to Miss Jisoo. I had information about everything and everyone related to my company, and I knew that they shared the dorm. Did that mean Miss Jisoo was sick and absent?
“Mr. Lee, who is the trainee you said is absent today?” I asked him to be sure.
“Sir, it’s Miss Kim Jisoo.” He said confirming.
“You should go ahead. I have something to take care of.” I told him and turned towards Miss Eva who had just noticed me.
“Good morning, sir” She greeted and bowed.
“Good morning, is there a problem? You seem worried.” I inquired her at the same time not showing her what I was inquiring.
“Oh no, sir. It's just Jisoo was sick when I came here, but she said she is feeling okay now.” She said. I nodded and she left to attend her session.
Jisoo was sick? Although Miss Eva said that she was alright at the moment, I had a feeling of uneasiness. The feelings were foreign to me. I should not feel this way towards a trainee.
Why should I care if she was sick? But it is simple humanity to be empathetic towards other humans. That is probably why I was feeling that way. Besides, she is a trainee in my company and I have to take care of each of them, I thought and called Mr. Lee to inform him I had some engagements and would not go for monitoring the sessions.
I also called Lee Mino to meet me in my car. He was in KJM building because he was the company doctor. After 5 minutes, he was sitting beside me in my car and the driver was driving us to the dorm building.
“What is the emergency about?” It was the third time he asked this question since I called him. One time on phone when I told him to meet me in my car and two times when he got there.
“You will know when we go there.” I told him to bring his basic medical equipments or whatever they were called with himself and that was all. I did not know why I was hiding the fact that we were going to a trainee’s dorm just because I had a gut feeling she was sick. Sooner or later, he would find out though.
The driver stopped the car since I had already given him the directions. The dorms were not that far from the office, so we reached before Mino could inquire me any further than he already had already done.
We got out of the car and went inside. The staff greeted us and bowed while we passed them. They all looked shocked to find me there. I did not visit the dorms often and my surprise visit surprised them it seemed. Once we were inside the elevator, Mino apparently could not keep quiet any longer.
“Will you tell me where the hell are you taking me to? Isn’t this building for trainees?” He asked. I sighed.
“Yes. I have some work here. After that, I will tell you where we are going.” I shortly answered him. He would make fun of me if he knew I was personally going to see if a trainee was sick. He knew me too much to know I was not like a person who would put a full stop to his work to check if a trainee of our company was ill.
Despite me being his employer, he would do that. I was sure of it, so I lied to him because: 1: We would know if she was sick when we go there and he would have to do a check-up. 2: He would not know about the whole scenario and would not tease me. I did not know why I was putting so much effort.
Thankfully, he did not question and got busy with his phone. We went to the particular dorm and I pressed the bell button. He eyed me probably thinking why I was alone and my guard/manager was not with me since I probably looked strange pressing the bell at a trainee’s dorm. I ignored him.
The door opened and…
“Thank God, you came. I was about to---”
There she was, looking a little drained and confused and out of breath. I was right. She still was sick.
She seemed as if she was trying to process what was happening. She swayed a bit making me more worried. She was about to fall when I grabbed her and held her in my arms. The emotions I was feeling were unexplainable. She did not look in a good condition and I was glad I came with Mino. He was standing behind me and was trying to understand what was happening. But he was a doctor after all.
“Oh! It seems she has passed out. We should lay her down.” Mino said.
I lifted her in my arms and we went inside. Mino randomly opened the door to a room since we did not know which one was her room. I laid her down on bed slowly my eyes were fixated on her face. She had the most innocent face I had even seen. The colour of her face was paler than usual and her lips dry. She must have been very sick, I thought.
“Mino, please…” I told Mino but he right away understood and nodded his head. I stood up and he went beside her to do a check-up. I was anxiously waiting for him to say what happened to her.
“I should call my assistant to bring some things which I will need.” He said after checking her pulse and heartbeat etc. I instantly got worried.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“Nothing. It seems she has passed out due to weakness and dehydration.” He said. I sighed, feeling relieved. He patted my arm and went outside to make a call.
I just stood there looking at her worriedly. All those feelings I was having were beyond me. I was always calm and collected and these traits were the reason I was a successful businessman. I did not know why I was so much worried about her as Mino had already said it was just because of weakness. I stood there thinking...nothing until Mino came inside.
“My assistant will be here soon.” He said and I nodded.
I was looking at her but could feel his eyes on me.
“What?” I asked turning towards him.
“You do not seem yourself today. Care to explain the reason?” He asked me at the same time assessing me.
“Its nothing.” I calmly answered.
“Oh I know there is something, so cut the crap.” He said even calmer than me. It was always our way of confronting the other. But I did not know why I was the one being confronted at the moment.
“I told you it is nothing. Now call your assistant to hurry. We do not have all day to waste here.” I told him sternly.
He kept assessing me for some time but went to call him again.
The truth was I wanted her to get medical assistance as soon as possible. I did not think being there for her was a waste of time but Mino’s questioning eyes made me say those words. He would not stop bothering me until he got what he wanted. Why did he have to be my childhood friend?
He came inside again, this time with his assistant. They both attached the IV with the stand and with her hand. Even in her unconscious state, she hissed. I said and did nothing, but it was hard to see her in such a state.
“There. I am done. We can go to the place you wanted to take me. I will call the nurse and she will stay with her until her roommates come back.” He said.
“No. I cancelled our visit.” I once again lied. There was no any scheduled visit in the first place. We originally came for Miss Jisoo and I could not tell him that.
“Okay… so I should go now, I guess.” He said making me frown.
“We both will stay until she wakes up.” I informed him. He raised his eyebrows.
“Just now, you were saying we cannot waste all day here. What happened?” He asked. He was the most inquisitive person ever and it was annoying me at that moment.
“Won’t you prescribe any medicine for her?” I asked him changing the subject. He shook her head.
“No, she will wake up soon. She just needs to eat food and drink lots of water. She will be fine.” He answered. He was about to open his mouth probably asking me why I changed the subject when we heard something and felt some movements behind. We both turned to look at Miss Jisoo who was waking up and holding her head. I was instantly relieved.
We both asked her how she was feeling and she said she was okay although her weak voice and her pale face were not consistent with her words. I did not say anything but was silently assessing her. She laughed at something Mino said, and I was lost in her laugh. It was the first time I was seeing her laugh infront of me. She noticed and I quickly averted my gaze.
Mino left, and I asked her again how she was feeling and even disagreed when she said she was okay. I went to make a call and yes I called one of my trusting employees, Mr. Robert, to send some food and fruits for the sick and gave him the address.
He was a homeless man that I had noticed since my trainee days. He used to live in a shelter near the company, and I often noticed him playing a guitar and being quiet the whole time. When I started my company, I employed him to run my personal errands and do some anonymous charity on my behalf. He was a very loyal and trustable, and he had proved that many times since I employed him, so I could trust him with the task at hand.
After the call, I entered the room again to find her frowning cutely. Yes she was looking cute in her pyjamas. Her hair was a bit tangled and she looked weak and pale, but her natural beauty could not be hidden by any means. I interrupted her thoughts again and she quickly composed herself.
She asked me why I was there so boldly. I raised my eyebrows and she visibly bit her tongue. I almost laughed--almost. I made some excuses because I did not want her to think of it more of what it actually was or was it more? It sure felt like more.
Her friend came and I excused myself. I looked at her when Miss Eva offered to stay for lunch. Her eyes were pleading me to stay. I could not be wrong as I was a very observant person and knew how to read body language. She wanted me to stay. But I could not.
I casted a glance at her when I denied and she was pouting. I could not stay. I had already gone out of my way and usual self that day. I did not want anyone to have any wrong ideas when there was nothing wrong.
I was sure there was nothing wrong.
