Reyna hadn't considered that her first confirmation of Aliens would be waking up in an office and being told she was being transferred to a different 'department', from 'Mana Production' to 'Mana Harvesting', and from 'Planet 17' to 'Planet 8'. It was all very confusing, but not confusing enough for her to forget what her father always taught her, growing up: 'Take 'em for everything they got' and 'Always get it in Writing, Kid!'

Most people would leap at the opportunity to be competent, to be useful, to be powerful or smart. Most people are idiots with no concept of the pressures and pitfalls of society thrust upon those with 'gifts' of any kind. Irene has always had some sort of Competence, be it in studies or in athletics, but she refuses to call it a 'gift', no matter how others see it; having the power to alter society in any meaningful way is precious, yes, but it is a burden before it is a boon. To be sent to a new world, a new society, and *still* be burdened with Overwhelming Competence... to her this is nothing more than a Curse.

You probably wouldn't understand just how difficult it is to be a next Don of a Family of Demon Hunters, and to have a 'normal' life as well, because you've obviously never met someone from that situation before. ... Right? --- The country of Selene has long been a sanctuary for all those who flee the savage lands of the outer continents, and inside the walls, around the border, law, order, and protection are in the hands of a select few individuals that have the wit, luck, or pure skill required to defeat the Adversary. These individuals, and their 'Families', are known as 'The Vanguard'. Most people in the main cities and farmlands have never even met a member of the Vanguard... or so they think. In fact, all the children and elderly of the Vanguard Families live in compounds in the Cities, and are known as the Rearguard, stationed to protect against any threats that slip past the front lines, and train for the days when they move to the front, and join the Vanguard.

Necromancy. A forbidden art since the beginning of 3,000 years of civilized, organized Mage-Craft. The art of animating dead bodies, summoning demons and Familiars far more powerful than any other type of Mage, time manipulation, soul-forging, and also, the most damning of their abilities, the creation of Plagues and the Undead. Between the years B.C. 1100 - 1850 A.D., all Necromancers were hunted down and exterminated in a horrible, chillingly efficient genocide, which continued for two of the three millennia it had existed, until all of its Heirs were dead; as such, 'Dead-Kings' ceased to exist in the modern world. At least, that's what the Council would have you think...

In a Semi-Modern realm of enforced peace and economic prosperity, certain things are the same, and of course, certain things are different. Amongst countries, conflict is no longer decided by soldiers and armies, but rather lone warriors, competing in duels for the honor and progress of their nations. In addition, rogue states may gain independence or prominence amongst the Great Nations through these Grand Duels. The nature of the Grand Duels would be considered the greatest difference, of course; the contestants compete in martial arts, given supernatural gifts by Guardian Spirits that represent the lands they live upon, and their power is decided by the strength of those living upon them, and their size.
