SynchroMet aims to cut trucker’s port dwell time
by Nick Savvides

Online container interchange service provider, SynchroNet Marine will launch its latest online product today designed to match trucks to cargo, reducing dwell time at ports and cutting costs.

Phase one of the SynchroMet service, supported by the Port Of Oakland, will be launched today giving truckers ‘a service that will significantly reduce waiting times at terminal gates and increase the number of street turns performed,’ says Reidar Brekke, President and COO of SynchroNet.

The system links truck drivers to ports and shipping lines via a secure website and allows lorry drivers to select pick-ups for boxes that will benefit both them, getting a return load, and the lines.

Containers can be tracked by their unit numbers and the SynchroMet system will give event confirmation as containers are picked up and delivered either to exporters or to the shipping lines.

Tay Yoshitani, executive director at the Port of Oakland, said: ‘SynchroMet will provide trucking companies and shipping lines with a real-time communication tool and technology platform that can help to reduce road congestion in the port and surrounding Bay community.’

Further development of the site, phase two, will enable shipping lines to interchange equipment at inland points. SynchroMet, which has already been on trial for some weeks with Oakland truckers, can be accessed through the internet at www.synchromet.com and www.synchronetmarine.com for other services.
