In order to protect the general public, the Animos project was established, through which advanced children were monitored and screened to determine whether they were sane enough to remain in general society. Those who pass are deemed the answer to society's problems, and are treated almost like celebrities. Those who fail Animos are locked up in protected facilities throughout the nation, to protect them and others. They are not allowed any contact with the outside world, and for good reason. However, when a few geniuses put their heads together, nothing is impossible.
