A Merthur fic set in canon era. After two years of putting up with his useless excuse for a manservant, Arthur begins to suspect that there may be more to Merlin than meets the eye. But Merlin's not the only one with a secret. And maybe destinies aren't always as they seem. AU where I use elements of all five seasons in a way that does not always comply with canon. This is a Fan-Fiction based upon the BBC series 'Merlin': Merlin is busy as usual working as King Arthur's servant. He rarely gets a good night's sleep, and it's beginning to take its toll on him. The king begins to notice. Love is growing between Arthur and Gwen, which is a joy to some, but a curse to others. Morgana goes all in to prevent Gwen from taking her place as queen beside Arthur on the throne of Camelot. She is prepared to do anything to win and is now more determined than ever to discover who Emrys truly is. Will Merlin be able to keep up appearences and at the same time fulfill his destiny? Will he have enough strength to defeat Morgana? And perhaps most importantly; will Arthur finally learn the truth? It becomes clear to Merlin that he must guard his secret with even greater care - or it might no longer hold. One thing is for sure; everyone is in for a surprise as the story unfolds... It had been five years since Balinor had died and three since Arthur had become king. Life in Camelot was surprisingly peaceful until Merlin noticed changes in his appearance. Knowing something was wrong when his magic refused to work or the spells were weaker/stronger than they should have been. When he found out from Kilgharrah what was happening to him he knew he had to leave Camelot until he regained control. He knew he had to find Vivianna to help him achieve his goal. He had been told that this trip might take him several months, but he had no choice if he didn't want to accidentally hurt someone he cared about. Together with Gaius's help, he came up with a suitable excuse for why he wasn't there. However, he didn't expect that his sudden disappearance would have such an impact on his friends because he didn't consider himself important. Arthur struggles to deal with it, until he's forced to once Camelot has a familiar new visitor. ~ Morgana crooned to the guard, her words cold but soothing, smile apparent in her voice. The sharp clicks of boots snapped against the cold dungeon air as a high-headed, cold-hearted sorceress stood proudly in front of the old man. Dark hair, wild like a bloodthirsty animal, contrasted sharply against her pale, creamy skin. A dangerous smile lingered on her lips, watery green eyes gleaming with malice as she tilted her head to survey her prisoner with mock sympathy. ~ Heads up, this fic is as straight as a ruler, so don't be expecting gay smut. Five years had passed since Arthur had become King, and three since the magic ban had been repealed. Merlin had left Camelot soon after, convinced that his work here was done and he wasn't needed anymore, to live a life of solitude and mystery as Emrys.
