A rewrite of TOTK and a continuation to BOTW: The Lonely Knight It has been five years since the defeat of Calamity Ganon. As Hyrule and its inhabitants strive to rebuild their once despoiled homeland, a new danger begins to awaken. With a potential threat begins to reveal itself, the Princess of Hyrule, Zelda, and the Hero of Hyrule, Link, descend down into the dark underground in search of answers. What they find though is much worse than they could have ever feared. On his own once more, it's up to Link to uncover the mysteries of the past and defend Hyrule once more. But with the sword that seals the darkness gone, Zelda missing, and his strength sapped away, can he even hope to prevail? (None of the artwork here is mine. On a journey to save his sister, a boy is caught in a struggle older than the great sea. ====== One thousand years ago, the greatest hero of all Time fought against Time's greatest enemy. The people rejoiced in the victory, but when the evil returned, the hero did not. Watching the unstoppable destruction, the golden godessess buried the land of Hyrule in water, keeping their foe from conquering the kingdom. Hyrule is now only a word on a page to the people on the great sea. Even though Hyrule is lost to them, they still cling to old traditions. And after all these years, the era without a hero will finally end. The legends will be reborn. Reborn on an ocean breeze. Published also on Scribblehub, RoyalRoad, and Deviantart. As Time's Wheel turned, Hyrule's ancient legends of kings, queens, and heroic knights in green slowly faded into myths. In the modern day Hyrule, everything seemed perfect; its economy flourished, its stocks rose like never before, its citizens were happy, and its military was one of the best in the world. That is all until Hyrule's neighboring nation, Gerudia, conducted a large scale invasion of its surrounding countries. Led by the former leader of a terrorist organization known for causing mass genocide and destruction, Ganondorf Dragmire and his nation plan to show the world the true power of a long forgotten magical element. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to my next big story! It's best not to mess with time. Zelda has been searching for Link for years after sending him off for his personal journey he never returned from. She's the only one who believes he's still out there, everyone else has moved on but her. She's stuck in a repeating cycle, her mind only focusing on one thing. In modern day Hyrule, Link is an orphan who lives in an orphanage. Because he is meant to be the Hero of Hyrule, his bunkmates get jealous and bully him for it. When Link enters first grade, he befriends Zelda, the most beautiful girl in Hyrule, and eventually falls in love with her. The two become inseparable, but everything changes when Zelda hits puberty; she vanishes and doesn't show up at school. Link tries to contact and find her, but no luck. Five years later, Link is a 16-year-old man with severe depression and a Hero chosen by the Master Rifle. He is still in love with Zelda and thinks about her every second of his life. One day, Link saves a woman from the Yiga clan members, and that woman turns out to be Zelda. She tells him about where she has been for the past five years, and once Link finds out the truth, he dedicates his days to helping Zelda feel safe and happy again away from her selfish, rich father Rhoam and her forced fiance, Ganondorf. While Link and Zelda try to save themselves from the abuse, an evil prince from another country declares war on Hyrule in hopes of annexing the kingdom, and Link must go to war, leaving Zelda. Amnesia was a funny thing. It strips you of all memories, both good and bad. But what it didn't take away from Link was his caring heart. He wasn't a man who had time to deal with or worry about things like memories anyway. All he cared about was doing what was right. But just because Link had no memories, or any interest to reclaim them, didn't mean they wouldn't return to haunt him. Ever since Link woke up, strange things have been happening around the land. Horrific creatures, not quite monster and not quite human, begin appearing at night to terrorize the denizens of Hyrule. Link, not one to simply let such evils do as they please, decides to investigate into the matter as he travels across the land to find a way to destroy these creatures. It should've been just another job for him, just a problem the people needed solved, just another errand for the incarnation of Hylia's hero. But as he investigates, he is haunted by his past. Link's mind cannot remember what happened. But his heart did. He still feels what he lost, what he failed to protect, even after one hundred years. That's what draws something toward Link, the very same evil that created the creatures he faces. It follows and watches him from the shadows, taunting him, waiting for him to remember the past he's forgotten, waiting for the pain to resurface, waiting for the time he can no longer carry the weight of it all. As he journeys on his quest to defeat Ganon and save Princess Zelda, Link must learn to contend with another ancient evil that taints the land, all while facing the ghosts of his forgotten past. Dear Journal, Impa told me that writing this after Link passed would help me heal. Heal in what way? I don't want to heal, I don't even want to live. Link was my everything. I haven't seen him in weeks and suddenly he's dead? I should've been a good wife. I should have stayed by his side and fought. I wish it were me. I wish I died instead. The legend of the hero, Link, the Goddess reborn, Zelda, and evil reincarnate, Ganon has been ingrained in the history of Hyrule from its very inception. Link, a young boy clad in green, is always destined to vanquish evil and save Hyrule, however, what if Link was betrayed by those he called allies? Before Hyrule prospered, before Skyloft was created, a hero lived in the land of Hylia, and though his deeds earned him legendary status amongst the peoples of Hylia, there were those who resented the hero. Framed for a crime he did not commit, the young man was cast in chains, forever to be locked away. That is, until the traitor's plot was uncovered. However, years had passed as the hero rotted away in a murky cellar. Could he truly forgive the people their sins? Could he accept their offer to save them once more from the encroaching armies of darkness? Could he take on that mantle once more and be the hero he had forged himself as? Or would he leave them to burn...?
