The walls of Dema are high, and its gates are sealed. For those trapped within, there is no way out-no voice but the Bishops', no future but their design. Clancy once believed that too, until a cryptic letter led him to a group of rebels known only as the Banditos, hidden deep in the Lowlands. Now, with the enigmatic Torchbearer by his side, Clancy must escape the city that has stolen so much from him. But the path to freedom is treacherous, and danger lurks in the shadows. Not every Bandito can be trusted. Not every escape leads to safety. And some secrets were never meant to be shared.

Anathema: someone or something that one vehemently dislikes, an abhorrence, abomination, accursed. Someone or something consigned to damnation or destruction. Platonic Joshler Life can get pretty difficult when your only two friends are imaginary, and it's even harder when they're not exactly the most positive people on the planet. Tyler is used to that, though, and he's used to pretending they're not there when other people are around. It wasn't so bad, at first, but now that one of them is bent on getting rid of the other, he's having his doubts. Tyler is alone in the city of Dema. He can't remember who he was before then. All he knows now is trying to survive in this world. He sees others around him who are struggling too, and he wants to help them. But he can't. He can't even seem to help himself. He keeps thinking he sees his best fren, Josh, but he's still not sure if its really him or if the city has finally driven him insane. His life now is nothing but fear. And there doesn't seem to be a way to fix that. Maybe there is...but maybe there isn't. The thing is, he's too afraid to find out. Fear is how they control you. The bishops. They see everything you do. And they want to destroy you. So don't bother fighting. They'll come for you. They'll come for you when you least expect it. Possible trigger warning: self-harm/suicide. This story is about overcoming that and overcoming depression. But it might be triggering to some readers. I'll add trigger warnings to those parts.
