2045. Not a good year for the United States. After nuclear war with former Korea, the United States crumbled into chaos and darkness. What once was the United States is no more. People live in fear of criminals on the loose, rioting, and most of all violence on the streets. What once was a happy, prospering country seems far from peaceful. But one average person learns a secret that may be able to restore the country to its former glory. Will he be able to race against the clock and restore his country before its too late?

John didn't like the future his parents had planned for him. He cut all ties and ran away from home, seeking a new life in the big city, where he could become a private detective. The first person who supported him was Isaac, who told him he was a wizard but said he could be a detective too if he wanted. Now, a year later, they're off the streets and starting to reach some kind of success. But the case of a young woman who thinks she's being followed is sure to change all of their lives... This was originally written for NaNoWriMo 2020. Trying to write 50k words of a novel in 3 weeks is a big challenge, so this is still a rough first draft. Any feedback would be much welcome. Everybody wants John to be something. His family wanted to marry him off to some rich guy. Isaac wants him to be a wizard. But John has run away from home, determined to follow his own dreams. And his dream is to be a private eye, just like in all the Raymond Chandler novels he read as a child. He can only hope that the detective skills he learned from those books are still relevant when it's 1996 and he's homeless in the big city... I was trying to write a book, all the way from initial concept to publication, in November 2024. All feedback appreciated. I managed to post a chapter every day in November, and write 5 more, but at the start of December I've still got a handful of loose ends to tie up.

Reluctantly, Eric has to work with the embodiment of his misery, and while doing so, unearths a damning secret. With his life at a low point, he figures there's no harm in shelving his professional obligations and investigating the mystery. However, he quickly finds out that solving the unknown will only be possible with help from a most unlikely source.
