The city of Greyscale lives up to its name . It's gloomy, overcrowded, and no one has time to do anything except work all day. Their ruler ignores the complaints of his people, leading to his fair share of assassination attempts. Not wanting to die just yet, he asks a secret organization to create a team of 'super-humans' called Overhauls to fight the rebels targeting him, and Tress finds herself in the middle of it all.

She is torn between her duty and desire for something better. Having been alone her whole life, she desperately seeks connection with the nearest people she can find - the Overhauls - and soon discovers truths about herself that she may not be ready to handle.
