In the distant future, Earth's resources have been plundered and deep-space oil haulers have become the backbone of the solar system's many stations. Henry Starbuck is the first mate onboard such a vessel, the Pequod. He only wants to finish the season and return home to his husband and son.

But the captain of the Pequod, Ahab, is a man obsessed with hunting down the vessel which took so much from him. There are legends of his quarry, Moby-Dick: talk from spacefaring astronauts that the ship, shaped like the extinct whales of old, is no longer crewed and is run entirely off a rogue AI programme. Many lives have been lost to it.

Starbuck has to confront the terror of space and the awful mania of his captain, all the while dealing with a past which will never leave him alone. He wishes desperately to do what is right.

The farthest galaxies are heartless, but no more cruel than the horror that exists inside man.

[a sci fi adaptation novella of Herman Melville's Moby-Dick - but no previous knowledge of the book is required]

This is my first, unpublished novel. It was sad sitting in the outer-reaches of desktop space, so I wanted to give it some attention. I hope that someone out there enjoys it and even-dare I say-chuckles a few times. Here's a brief summary: Boy meets boy. Boy meets boy's boyfriend. Then meets his other boyfriend and thinks: Damn, I can't go out with this guy. I can barely handle my own dick, little less a... Wait, is there a name for a group of dicks? Is it like...a herd of dicks? Or maybe it's a flock of cocks? ...Yeah, I like a flock of cocks better. It just rolls off the tongue. POLYSOMETHING is the story of Aaron Moore, a 28-year-old self-conscious, OCD, gay man looking to break his hermitic life in New York City. Pushed to attend a Polyamory Night-at your average hipster bar in Brooklyn-with his roommate and best friend, Alex, Aaron meets Jonathan, a performer with beautiful, curly hair and one of those perfect, well-built bodies that Aaron has seen plenty of times-in the countless hours of porn he watches. Only one catch: Jonathan's a polyamorist, and Aaron could never imagine himself dating a polyamorist. Or anyone at all. However, after a trip to the Cloisters museum (where he sees practically every happy gay couple in the tristate area), Aaron decides to go out with Jonathan, believing he may be the best way to break out of his very long and very sexless six-year rut. Unfortunately, Jonathan's other boyfriends put Aaron in more awkward and compromising positions than he'd planned for, including: vomiting in front of a crowd of hipsters, getting into a heated argument with Jonathan's "pinched-face cunt" boyfriend, and an acrobatic sex act involving the rim of his bath tub. POLYSOMETHING isn't just about the crazy exploits of a man's relationship with a polyamorist, though. It's about the courage to get past one's insecurities to find love; dealing with the heartbreak of losing love; and ultimately working on becoming a better person.
