Book 1 of the Legends Never Die series. Legend. A program designed by five previous agencies, who had banded together to create an all powerful team of agents. This was a group of the worlds strongest, smartest, and loyal people. They were sought out by Legend's commanders, split into teams of five, and trained into powerful beings. Hackers, Assassins, Combat Soldiers. They were weapons of humans, used by Legend to protect their home, communities, and people. Various programs of Legend were spread all around the world, each trained and conditioned the same. And now? Most of them were terminated. Very few stayed at Legend, and became head of the programs. Now they oversee each and every asset. Those who left, started normal lives. Found love, had children. Got office jobs or moved to a beach for retirement. But no matter how hidden, they would never be safe, and some of those agents understood that. So as Legend began to dye out, the Chiefs started contacting all former Legend agents, and proposing a new idea. A new agency. A smarter, more powerful, more compassionate and loyal agency. One that would ensure the protection of each family. Knowing that no former Legend agent would be safe on their own, they agreed to the new program. All former Legend assets and their families would return to the agency, where they would live comfortable lives. Where they would be safe. The children of those former agents were raised into the new program. Assessed by members of their families and head of the agency. Once old enough to be evaluated on their skills, they were split into teams of five, and trained just like their parents. More powerful than their parents ever were, at even younger ages. The year is 1964, but the surface has not felt human footsteps for nearly half a century. The Great Retreat of 1919 forced the remnants of civilization underground after World War I spiraled out of control. The war did not end-it merely burrowed deeper. Humanity crawled underground, carving vast tunnel networks and cavern-cities in the bones of the earth. Here, in the damp dark, people breathe recycled air, eat fungus grown from the dead, and drink from seeping cracks in ancient stone. The tunnels are endless, a maze of bunkers, collapsed mines, and fortresses built into the rock. The deeper one goes, the easier it is to forget the surface ever existed. War never ended-it just changed battlefields. Two factions, trapped in their endless conflict, send wave after wave of soldiers to die in the tunnels. The Golden Empire A militaristic theocracy that foolishly believes that God has not yet mankind. Their soldiers march in formation, clad in gold-plated armor, chanting hymns as they die for a war they cannot win. The Royal Nation A fractured, industrial war machine, where duty replaces faith. They ration food, force conscription, and manufacture war endlessly. Their soldiers wear hate on their sleeves, marching toward death with polished bayonets. Neither side will surrender. Battles are won and lost over mere yards of dirt, trenches collapse under the weight of bodies, and chemical gas drifts through the underground like creeping death. The surface is dead. The underground is soon to follow.

Everything started in 2036. The pollution was so bad that the end of the world was predicted to be right around the corner. As complete panic set in around the world, the rich and important people were all gathered and placed on giant spaceships with enough resources and room to house generations of human beings. Before they left though, the government leaders fired As a result, most of the human population died off and earth was a complete wasteland. The little that survived started building local communities and trying to survive in the destroyed excuse of a planet. On the disaster of a planet, creatures mutated and were born out of the nuclear chemicals; creating new species and monsters that hunted humans. While hundreds and hundreds of years passed, the monsters kept evolving and the people kept adapting while still trying to keep a sort of community. They didn't want to lose all of their humanity and become nothing more than animals that hunted the monsters: then they would truly be no better than the monsters themselves. So they stayed civil while still doing what it took to survive.

It's the future and all of North America is basically experiencing an apocolypse. In 3013 a missile hit in southern america, it contained an unknown virus that has spread like wildfire and infected 60% of America, Mexico, and Canadas citizens as a whole. The USA has contained all healthy citizens from the sick ones. The government has convinced everyone that the outside world is a very dangerous place. But is it true? Everyone has their doubts. And the government heads on a downward spiral when Jr. Soldiers Gale Mathesin and Vala Mininger set out to save their city from being overrun with the sickness. But will there be a bump in the road of their 'perfect' plan? No inside citizens has ever seen the outside world. They need to find a new place to settle their citizens before the sickness overruns them all. As far as the rest of the world knows, all of North America is sick or dead. So where do they have to go? The scientists of Vault 115 know nothing of the horrors laying outside, waiting patiently for them to open their doors. Though they imagine, they hypothesize, they plan for the absolute worst. Creating super suits to protect them, whether from radiation or physical damage, they still feel as if they are not protected well enough. Centuries, generations, flitter by. Myths and hypothesis turn into facts and waiting for the inevitable. Frightened, scientists continue their studies, passing their knowledge from one generation to another, in hopes that perhaps they will find a way to protect themselves when the time comes to finally open the vault doors. There had been a counter in the main living area of the Vault, but as it counted down the time until the oxygen would run out, people kept getting worked up or scared. In response, the Overseer had it moved to the actual Vault exit, where only the Overseer had permission to go. As children growing up, we were always destined to be a scientist, to continue the research of our fathers and forefathers. We never questioned this, it was just the way things were. However, one day, two children were picked from class and taken away. They had never been seen again. All the other children in the class were confused, some frightened, some angry they had not been chosen. But no matter the emotions, it remained a mystery. A month passed, and two more children had been picked to leave the class, and they hadn't returned either. The children started to feel restless, and the parents of the missing children never said a word, only went to work and back to their rooms, never smiling. This month, the children flitter about the classroom nervously. This would be the day that they would take two more children, if they did it again. And, expectedly, the Overseer had appeared in the classroom. She calmed the children, then read two names off of her clipboard. And she read my name.

He was sent home due to the alleged endangerment of his fellow soldiers, however, this granted him some immunity. His home was in a small town that was populated by no less than 30 people, and nearby was a cryogenics testing facility in the form of a vault. The company that owned it, Vault-Tec, was a government-funded organisation that worked to find ways to preserve human life in the case of a global disaster. Due to Y/N's service history, he was allowed into the vault during the nuclear warhead exchange between America and China, and that's where our story starts.
