The wind howled through the hollowed bones of Greymaw Cathedral, its broken spires clawing at a sky choked with stormclouds. Beneath the shattered altar, a stairway yawned open - a gaping wound in the earth, exhaling a stench of damp stone and long-decayed flesh.

Four figures stood at its mouth, their faces pale in the sickly glow of flickering lantern-light. No name was spoken, no prayer offered. Only the sound of steel drawn from sheathes, the brittle crunch of old bones underfoot, and the soft, steady drip of water from the stones above.

Somewhere below, the labyrinth waited.

And it was hungry.

"WHY CAN'T YOU GET IT INSIDE YOUR HEAD?" He trapped my trembling body between his arms and slammed his fist into the wall. I flinch at the sound as I feel tears forming in my eyes. "I'M SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR CRYING. JUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT YOU'RE NEVER LEAVING. THIS IS YOUR LIFE NOW, WITH ME" He spits, anger consuming his voice as I push myself further against the wall. Shutting my eyes closed and turning my face to the side as I do. Moments later, I feel his rough hand on my waist and his finger grazing my cheek. "Look at me, love." His hand grips onto my jaw, his thumb playing across my lower lip. He turns my face to meet his as I lower my gaze to the floor. He lowers himself to my level and I feel his breath fanning my cheek causing my breathing to become unsteady. "I love you so much, darling. But you need to learn. You need to learn that you won't be going anywhere. You're mine." With that being said, his other hand slides down to my waist "Your entire body, your mind, your soul. All mine." All I could do was tremble at his touch. How can someone so beautiful be so heartless? ~~~~~~~~~~ All a 19 year old Aurora Shaw wanted to do was work to make a living and volunteer at the orphanage. The Trials

16 parts Ongoing

How do you get rid of the biggest part of you? How do you ignore the call of something so beautiful yet so deadly? How do you resist the darkness that's been living, growing and thriving within you even before you were born? How do you turn down the only chance to get all the answers you desire, even if it leads you down a path of chaos, horror, and madness? A path others have fought for you not to tread. But why even fight at all? Why fight a fire that only burns brighter? "Listen, you can choose not to believe this. But I've been where you are, I've felt what you feel." I opened my mouth to snap back, but he continued in a cracked voice. "Don't ask me how I know-all I know is I dont want to hurt you. I dont want a throne. I just...I just want you to be okay. I can't...I can't lose you too." His eyes shone with sincerity and heart-wrenching pain. But neither affected me. Not anymore. "What makes you think I care about you losing me," I whispered. "When I don't even care if I lose myself?" The others may be trying to douse the fire, but I rather let it burn. Burn until it consumed us all.
