1. Elena's diaries were her emotional crutches.

》It was Miranda whom inspired Elena to begin writing, but what fuelled her was the trauma. She needed a way to cope. She wanted to overcome the heavy sorrow of loneliness, and the burdensome grief of the loss. She found a way through writing in her diaries.

Elena figured out that she can allow herself to feel the despair and pain, but leave it in the pages. With each word she wrote, she can release the sadness which she refused to shed as tears. In a way, she can make herself forget of ever feeling the agony the moment she finished an entry. Her heart locks itself just as she closes the diary itself. She can leave it there as her personal Pandora's Box. No one needs to know how she really feels when she claims to be fine. She will smile tomorrow. She can say she was moving forward and mean it, even if her subconscious knew she was standing still. It was her own switch, but rather than her humanity, it was the negative emotions that keep piling up.

Then, she stops writing.

Because at that point, Elena was starting to smile sincerely again.

She can finally allow herself to cry. She can finally allow herself to feel.

She can finally declare that she was not fine, and there was nothing wrong with saying it. She can stand again and stay resilient against all odds.

Lastly, she finally has the strength to accept everything and rise above it.

Elena Gilbert no longer needs a diary.

2. Elena never entirely hated Katherine, and vice versa.

》Hate was a very strong word. Their existence are strongly engraved in each other's lives. They were bound before either of them were born just for sharing a face. They arrived into this world because it was their common destiny to die. It was to take the place of another woman whom committed atrocities against nature in the name of love. That love carried in their name as the Petrova fire.

Katherine was once Katerina and she wanted true love. Elena reminded her of that, and how she could have had everything. She wanted it all back. It was unfair that Elena had everything while she was left with nothing. She was desperate to find reason to live, and even that was being taken away.

Elena understood Katherine. A part of her knew she was not as strong nor as vigilant as the latter. If she had truly lost everything and everyone, she would have died. It was either because she had no will to keep going, or because she was only as strong as the people that supported her.

On that perspective, they respect each other as much as they despise the fact they share a face.

Katherine does not hate Elena. She just hates the fact the human has everything she ever needed and ever wanted. It was jealousy.

Elena does not hate Katherine. She just hates the fact the vampire keeps choosing herself, and she cannot entirely blame her. It was empathy.

It was because they were rivals in everything that they may have understood each other more than anyone else.

3. Elena would have ended up marrying Tom Avery.

》They would have met each other in med school for sure. Elena wanted to become a doctor, and Tom became a paramedic. They would have become a cute couple. It would have been close to being love at first sight, and it would have been a fruitful marriage after all their trials. They would have children and then grandchildren, before dying together of old age on their warm bed.
