Elena wanted to know him. The depths of those brown eyes remain abstract and elusive. There was a hidden pain, an unspoken heartbreak within the abyss. He buried it all so deep that he may have even forgotten it existed. Her hands reached out, wanting to heal him. Her lips asked:
"Are you happy?"
Then, Elijah finally smiles back and Elena felt herself unravel.

Elena saw him as a nuisance, the wild fox amongst the Originals. Kol is his name. He had the appearance of a young man but she knew the truth of his nature. She was a plaything to him, a way to agitate his brothers. She could also be a social experiment, a way to figure out the allure of doppelgangers as it had enchanted his brothers. Through their witty banters, they developed a routine.
Suddenly, she starts expecting him.
Suddenly, he starts missing her.
Kol always loved pretty things with sharp tongues. It was even more endearing when they have fire. He liked playing with it when he had magic. The young woman before him is a living fruit of nature's magic. He never knew when she became more than that in his eyes. His eyes just opened one day to see her smiling cheekily, and then her lovely brown eyes dared him fearlessly. She thrives in the danger too, and she wanted a love that will consume her.
As fate would have it, he is a man that finds thrill in devouring everything...
...to fill the void where his magic used to reside.
Elena then looks at him, and she sees beyond the psychotic mischief. It was almost like seeing Jeremy, but also herself. He was alone but he refuses to feel loneliness. He had been strong for too long, and she knows it was time to let it all go.
It was time for her to let go.
Thus, she kisses him...
...and he kisses back.·

6. Elena wanted to dye her hair blonde to feel like a princess.
》There was something majestic and dazzling about blonde hair. It seems like a surreal trait. Elena felt as if she looked too plain as a brunette. Other girls can be very beautiful with brown hair, but not her. A part of her believed having blonde hair is like wearing a ray of sunshine as a veil or halo. It seemed so lovely to have, and it was like her own tiara.
However, Caroline told her she was so proud to be blonde because it made her feel unique.
Elena then decided to not dye her hair. Caroline wears it better anyway.

7. Elena never wanted to become a vampire because she was scared of being left behind again.
》It was ridiculous. It was quite stupid. She was dating a vampire, and she claimed to be in love. One of her friends turned into one. She never despised the supernatural. She embraced many of them as her friends. On that note, why would she hate the thought of becoming a vampire?
Because she remembers Jeremy.
Because she remembers Jenna.
Because she remembers Bonnie.
Because she remembers Matt.Elena remembers all of her human loved ones. She remembers that they will die someday, and she will keep living if she was a vampire. Everyone will move along with the passage of time, and she will stay young while they die of mortality one by one.
Elena does not want to mourn anyone else anymore.

8. If Elena had met Rebekah before Klaus, they would have been close friends.
》Rebekah was loyal to Klaus. Despite their differences, she will never wish misfortune and death upon him. Even though she never understood, she was there to support him. Sometimes, it was an unrequited effort which hurt her many times in the past.
Elena would have been a welcoming change if only they met first. She never would have judged Rebekah for being the sister of the monster that wished to use her for a sacrificial ritual. In return, Rebekah would have made sure to find a way for her newfound friend to live. She would have let go of her grudges against doppelgangers, and learn to separate Elena from her ancestors. Even if it meant defying her brother, she was prepared to draw a line. They would have done a lot to support and encourage each other through hell or high water.
Through Elena, Rebekah would have also gained friends in Caroline and Bonnie. For the first time in a thousand years, she would feel as if she never needed her brothers or a man to prove she was worth loving. It would have been a cathartic epiphany to acknowledge that she was above being their doormat.
Elena and Rebekah would have been friends, if only they met first.

9. If Elena was human when Connor arrived, she would have been a candidate successor alongside Jeremy.
》It was only a theory. The magic of being a Traveler or a doppelganger would have likely cancelled it out. It was a possibility since she was still a Gilbert. Moreover, Alaric has been training her. It would have been quite the turn of fate when the girl coveted and loved by vampires became their hunter.

10. Elena would not have objected to cooperating with Klaus if he never tormented everyone she ever loved.
》If only he did not try so hard to corner her. If only he did not act like such a bastard. If only he did not find the need to always use fear against everyone he meets. If only he never let his paranoia get the better of him every time. If only he never killed Isobel. If only he never tried to kill Jeremy, Caroline, and Tyler. If only he never killed Jenna. If only he never took Stefan's free will away. If only he never tried to force his way. If only he tried to find a way to compromise.
Things could have been different.
In fact, Elena may have even attempted to help Klaus heal from his past. In fact, Caroline may have embraced what they could have had.
