"Where are you off to?" Fera growls from her cleaning station.

"Frigga has requested for my to attend her and Sif's dress fitting for the ball tomorrow,"

"You? You were asked for fashion advice?" The girl cackles sourly. "Switch places with me, I'd be much better help, I mean look at you," She saunters over and tugs at the patches along your dress. "Rags that will never receive riches, you are quite the pity,"

"Yes, thank you, Fera," you snatch back your dress and walk away, letting the servant door close, cutting off the maid's laugh. "Damn," snapping away any negative emotion you placed on a bright smile.

"Afternoon, ladies," you curtsy for the royal tailor after greeting the two women.

"What's wrong?" Sif was the first to ask.

"What?"

"Your smile is forced, what happened? Do you not wish to be here?" Frigga raised her palm to your cheek.

"No, no, It's fine, I just... a maid seems to take a liking for belittling me," you hum and sit upon a cushioned chair.

"Belittling you? What is her name?"

"Do not worry, it causes me no pain, just annoyance I cannot retaliate," Sif and Frigga looked once more to each other before letting the tailor tweak the dresses they wore.

"Now, how does the design look?" Frigga turned to you, her figure was complimented as places for gems were coloured in with white chalk.

"Perfect... though I doubt grey is your colour,"

"No, of course not, this is for the outline," the tailor informed.

"Evidently I'm not skilled in sewing," you chuckle and look over cuts of fabric. "Try this colour, it compliments your hair better,"

"And of me?" Sif tosses you the cuts of fabric.

"Burgundy, it highlights the red reflection in your hair," the tailor takes the two fabrics with a thankful smile.

"Wonderful! Your turn,"

Choking on the sip of tea you took, a napkin was handed by the tailor. "T-thank you... what do you mean my turn?"

"You expect to be left out on the fun?"

"Well... yes, I'm a maid, and I doubt the Allfather would be delighted to see my face in the crowd,"

"It's a masquerade, Y/n, nothing but eyes and lips to lay gaze on,"

"That explains that..." you look to the masks in the corner. Standing up you take two fitting masks. "These will fit the dresses, but I will have to decline the offer for my attendance,"

"It wasn't a choice, Y/n, as queen of Asgard your attendance is compulsory,"

"Oh come on!"

~~~
"This is a bit much, isn't it?" Fabric lay over your shoulders, tightening around your waist with pins. Floor length, the skirt was being adjusted to your size.
"It's perfect!" Frigga sighed in content. "Colours... colours..."
"Green and black with gold accents," Sif handed the queen the fabric cuttings.
"Are you trying to get me to replace Loki?"
"Nothing wrong with competition caused by an outfit clash," the warrior grinned as Frigga approved the colours.
"This is insufferable," you take a look at yourself in the three framed mirror. "I really think I should be doing my job? You understand I am still a maid,"
"Is that the problem? You worry about your position as a maid?" Frigga chose the best fitting mask and rested it against your face.
"I work for the palace, it's the best job I've ever had, I can't abandon those duties and go running around as if my status is higher than it is," you gently push away the mask and step out of the design once the tailor removed a few pins.
"Your status?"
"I'm a maid to serve the royal palace, I'm not a duchess, heir nor princess and definitely not deserving of this treatment, as long as I remain in the maid quarters I'm afraid I can't attend this, even if that means disobeying you orders, Frigga,"
"As long as you remain a maid? Then it's done, you are now my lady-in-waiting," The door handle of the tailor room clattered with your grip.
"What?"
"It solves the dilemma, and I have been looking for a lady-in-waiting," Frigga smiled innocently.
"I don't know how to reply..."
"Good, don't say a word, just follow me," Frigga opened the door for you, taking your hand and moving towards the chambers. "I'm sure this will suffice? The warriors and Sif lay rest just down the hall,"
Streaming gold glossed over the dainty curtains flowing elegantly through the breeze. Oak furniture was cushioned with the softest material from the looks of it and the wood was glossed like melting ice on a heated stone.
Thick fabric, held back with velvet rope, draped along the side of the bed which could fit a fair few people. It sat across from a large vanity with one too many drawers, unknown to you why someone would need as many.
To the right by the closet was a pristine, unlike the rickety old one in your room. Ink, parchment and quills were settled along it along with wax seals.
Without a single word, Frigga pushed the door to the bathroom open, the smell of fresh flowers flowing out on command. Inside were large mirrors and a marble bath, beside was a basin which could have washed a child effortlessly.
The balcony, on which the panes of glass framed by wood sat, overlooked the garden, towering over the giant cherry blossoms. Causing the passing staff to look like ants with not a single quarrel with a boot.
"I do hope you enjoy," Frigga walked back to the door and shut it in your face before you could reply.
