Team VALE sat spread out in Doctor Oobleck's classroom, listening to a lecture about the great war. Each of them payed attention, as Dr. Oobleck did not let slackers get away with anything in his class. As he zipped around, Vila noticed how Jaune was sleeping, snoring even. Y/N was currently inbetween Blake and Pyrrha, Lydia on Pyrrha's other side. Vila and Evelyn sat with Velvet, getting to know her a little before class and they got along just fine. Evelyn did tease Velvet about her reaction to having her ears massaged, and Velvet was a blushing mess. Blake looked at Y/N frequently, always looking away when he looked back. This confused the boy greatly, and sighed, before refocusing upon the green haired doctor.

"Now, have any of you been subjugated or discriminated because of your faunus heritage?" Oobleck asked the class. Velvet timidly raised her hand, along with all four members of VALE, and a few other students. "Dreadful, simply dreadful. Remember students, it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence." He took a strong sip of coffee. What the hell was in that mug to make him that fast? Does Ozpin drink it too? "I mean, look at what happened to the White Fang. Now, which one of you young scholars can tell me what many theorists believe to be the turning point in the third year of the war?" Weiss raised he hand. "Yes?"

"The battle at Fort Castle," she said smugly.

"Precisely," Oobleck continued to say, "And who can tell me the advantage the faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"

Cardin flicked a paper football at Jaune's head, waking him. "Hey!"

"Mr. Arc! Finally contributing to class I see! This is excellent! Excellent!" Oobleck exclaimed. "What is the answer?"

Jaune slowly pieced together an answer with Pyrrha's help, only to misinterpret her signals. Well, she tried. Props to Pyrrha. However, this is something Jaune should know. Y/N held back a scoff as the other students laughed. Oobleck took another sip of coffee. Pyrrha facepalmed.

"Very funny, Mr. Arc. Cardin?" Oobleck asked, noting how disrespectful the ginger's posture was. "Perhaps you'd like to share your thoughts on the subject!"

"Well, I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier," said ginger spoke arrogantly. Oobleck shook his head, and Vila gritted her teeth, but Y/N spoke before she, or Pyrrha could.

"Oh, so because you don't know the answer, you're going to resort to blatant racism?" Y/N said coldly, eyes flaring with disdain. "Maybe that ego does make up for something else."

A chorus of oohs was heard from the students, and Cardin rose from his seat angrily.

"Take your seat, Mr. Winchester. Now Mr. L/N, I hope you didn't say without having the answer yourself?" Oobleck inquired.

"Yeah. Night vision. Many faunus are known to have near flawless visual sense in the dark, I am no exception," Y/N answered.

"General Lagune was inexperienced and make the mistake of trying to ambush the faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched, and the general was captured," Blake added, as Oobleck nodded, "Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, you wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure."

Cardin growled, but stayed seated. "Mr. Winchester and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings. Now, moving on!"

....

Class was over, and the students left the room. Y/N saw out of the corner of his eye that Pyrrha was waiting presumably for Jaune, but Y/N was more focused on a certain ravenette. First, he went back to his dorm to change, he made sure to get there before his female teammates to avoid them seeing him almost nude. Then he marched to RWBY's dorm, and knocked upon the door.
