"Nice job shutting the Fenton's up," Valerie said to Ember.
They were currently halfway to Phantom's Keep. Paulina was already complaining about her feet and talked non-stop about meeting the Ghost Boy. Which made Jazz, Valerie, Dash, and Ember want to leave her behind just so they don't have to listen to her anymore. Danny was still unconscious from both his injuries and using his powers while seriously injured. It made Ember worry even more.
"Someone had to do it," Ember replied.
The rest of the walk to Phantom's Keep was quiet. No one knew what to say. Danny's breathing was shallow, even for a ghost. Even though they knew he would be fine, it didn't stop them from worrying. Especially Ember, both of them had initially got off on the wrong foot. She did try to kill him multiple times but once she got to know Danny she couldn't help growing feelings towards him. Danny always made her feel safe and he was one of the few people who knew how she became a ghost in the first place. Sometimes she couldn't help but think he was too good to be with someone like her. Mostly because of how she treated him. But Danny always brushed it off saying it was all in the past.
Ember had reluctantly opened up to Danny one day when he was visiting the Ghost Zone. Ember was just sitting on a rock alone. She looked upset so Danny went up to her and asked her what was wrong. She obviously didn't want to answer and tried to change the subject. But Danny wouldn't let her and she just told him. It was the anniversary of her death and she had no one to talk to about it. Danny sat with her for hours while she talked about that day. Danny was the first person that didn't judge her, he comforted her and helped her with her pain. After that, they started hanging out instead of fighting. They would have late-night talks about a random topic like if monkeys were smarter than humans. (Danny thought they were) And eventually, they started dating. With Ember thinking about all of this she failed to notice that they were approaching the Keep. Valerie snapped her out of her thoughts and pointed towards the Keep.
Phantom's Keep was previously Pariah's Keep but Danny changed the castle to something more welcoming. Mostly because he knew no one wanted any reminders of the old king. The main colors of the castle were black and white.
When Ember approached the doors the guards bowed slightly (Even though Danny had said numerous times they didn't have to) and opened the doors to the castle. In the entrance of the castle there stood Pandora. The class was too busy looking at the castle in awe to notice she was there.
"Hello, Ember! I was wondering where Danny was, he doesn't seem to be anywhere," Pandora said.
Ember stepped aside so Pandora could see Dash who was carrying an unconscious Danny. Pandora instantly went into mother mode. She asked a thousand questions but never gave Ember the chance to answer them.
"Pandora! Calm down, can you bring Danny to the infirmary, I have to watch them," Ember said, pointing towards the group behind her now staring at Pandora in shock.
"Of course! Clockwork is here as well so he will be able to help with his wounds."
Pandora took Danny from Dash's arms and rushed off in the direction of the infirmary.
"Most of you are probably hungry, so follow me to the kitchen," Jazz said, breaking the silence.
Two hours had passed before Danny woke up. Clockwork had been patiently waiting for Danny to wake up during that time. Danny started to sit up but winced in pain, Clockwork went over to him and helped Danny slowly sit up.
"You only have an increased healing factor, Daniel. You are not invincible to pain," Clockwork said.
"I know, but it was Walker so I couldn't exactly escape it. Though you already knew that," Danny said.
"You gave Ms. McLain, Ms. Fenton, and the rest quite the scare. They will be relieved to know you are awake now. You even scared me, and I knew what would happen," Clockwork said.
Danny looked at Clockwork in surprise.
Clockwork just looked at Danny and said, "Don't look so surprised, with how many injuries you get anyone would worry."
"I like to keep it dramatic," Danny said, playfully.
Clockwork chuckled then said, "It's one of your many qualities, but I do want to warn you about your class. They know more about what you truly are, I am sorry I know you didn't want this."
Danny sighed before saying, "It was only a matter of time before they figured it out. Will everything be okay?"
"Everything's as it should be," Clockwork said before leaving.
Danny had learned to find comfort in those words. It was Clockwork's way of saying yes or wait and see without damaging the timeline. It still annoyed him though. (It's also why Clockwork says it a lot)
Pandora visited him after Clockwork left and asked him over and over again if he was okay or if he needed anything. After reassuring her that he was okay she left. And Danny just laughed to himself. A few minutes later Danny heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," Danny said.
Ember opened the door with Dani next to her. Dani ran to her father and jumped onto his bed, hugging him immediately. Ember on the other hand walked over to where Danny was sitting and joined the hug. After a few minutes, they broke apart from the hug.
"Mommy said you got hurt," Dani said. (She's like four in this. Danny and Ember have been dating for a couple of years which is why she calls Ember mom)
"I am fine now, don't worry," Danny said.
Danny opened his arms and Dani went to lie down on top of his chest. After Dani got comfortable, Ember hit him on the leg which made Dani giggle.
"Ow!" Danny yelled.
"Don't scare me like that again," Ember said, angrily.
"Sorry," Danny said, sheepishly.
"Just don't do that again," Ember said.
"I won't."
"Good."
"How are you handling the group?" Danny asked.
"They are driving me insane! Paulina won't shut about the ghost boy and her plan to marry him, Maddie and Jack won't stop talking about ghost inventions, and the rest are just so annoying," Ember said.
"I don't know it sounds to me you are having a fun time," Danny said, smiling.
Ember glared at Danny before saying, "Though it's obvious they have questions, they are just waiting for you so they can have those answers. Dash, Valerie, and Jazz are refusing to answer any without you there."
Danny sighed.
"You can't avoid them forever, Danny."
"I know."
"Hey, I will be right next to you, don't worry," Ember said.
Danny smiled and nodded. He got up with Ember's help. Ember picked up Dani and placed her on her hip and made their way to the kitchen. Once they got there Jazz immediately noticed him and ran to hug him.
"Don't scare me like that again!" Jazz yelled.
"I won't," Danny said.
"Well if it isn't sleeping beauty, enjoy your nap?" Valerie asked.
"Yes I did," Danny said.
"I'm glad because you have a class of high schoolers that have a lot of questions for you," Valerie said.
Danny sighed and walked up to the table where the group was sitting. Before he got to the table Dani got out of Ember's arms and ran up to Danny grabbing his hand. Danny stopped walking and smiled at Dani, he picked up Dani and started walking to the table again.
"Alright I know you have questions, so shoot," Danny said.
