Tony smiles, "I have a little girl."
"A girl would be nice. Less of a chance she'd turn out exactly like me."
"What'd be so awful about that?" I ask him.
"Let's just say that the greater good has rarely outweighed my own self-interests." He nods. "Do you have any Y/N?" He turns to me as he grabs the flowers.
"I don't....my husband and I are planning to start a family soon." I nod, Tony turns to me and smiles.
"That's great." Dad smiles.
Tony turns to him as we step outside, "So, where are you at with names?"
"Well, if it's a boy, my wife likes Elmonzo."
"Huh, Might wanna let that stew awwhile. You got time." Tony smiles.
"Let me ask you a question. When your kid was born– were you nervous?" Dad asks Tony.
"Wildly. Yeah." Tony nods.
"Did you feel qualified? Like you had any idea how to successfully operate that thing?"
Tony nods again, "I literally pieced it together as I went along, I thought about what my Dad did, and–"
"My old man, he never met a problem he couldn't solve with a belt."
"I thought my dad was tough on me. And now, looking back, I just remember the good stuff, you know. He did drop the odd pearl." Tony smiles softly.
"Yeah? Like what?"
"No amount of money ever bought a second of time."
"Smart guy." Dad chuckles.
"He did his best."
"Let me tell you. That kid's not even here yet, and there's nothing I wouldn't do for him. Good to meet you, Potts....Romanoff." Dad shakes my hand.
"Yeah, Howard– Everything's gonna be all right. Thank you– for everything– you've done for this country." Tony hugs him quickly.
Once he's done, I pull dad in for a long hug. "Thank you." I smile, hurrying back with Tony.
We go behind the building and click the quantum suits on and out in the new particles. I put in the time and nod at the two.
I'm about a second we all were back at the compound, I smile as my suit goes off. "Did we get them all?" Bruce asks.
"You telling me this actually worked?" Rhodey smiles.
"Clint, where's Nat?" Bruce asks as Clint falls to his knees.
Clint stares up at me.... "No.....Clint where is she?" Clint looks down and starts crying. I drop to my knees as I feel my heart being ripped out...realizing what has happened. Steve falls down and holds me in his arms. "No! Where is she!" I scream. "No!"
As I get the feeling I couldn't breath, I teleport outside onto the dock by the water. I strip out of these stupid clothes and back into my old ones. I slam down onto the dock and lay with my knees to my chest, crying my heart out.
I didn't know how long I had been laying out there, but I didn't protest when Steve picked me up and held me in his arms as he sat. Tony, Thor, Clint, and Bruce were here also.
"Do we know if she had family?" Tony suddenly speaks up.
"Yeah. Us." Steve nods, softly rubbing my back. I had no tears anymore, I was just blankly staring at the water.
"What?" Thor asks.
Tony looks up, "I just asked him a question–"
"Yeah, you're acting like she's dead. Why are we acting like she's dead? We have the stones, right? As long as we have the stones, Cap, we can bring her back, isn't that right? So stop this shit. We're the Avengers, get it together." Thor hisses.
"We can't get her back." Clint says blankly.
Thor turns, "Wha– what?"
"It can't be undone. It can't." Clint shakes his head.
Thor dryly laughs. "I'm sorry. No offense, but you're a very earthly being. Okay? We're talking about space magic. And "can't" seems very definitive don't you think?"
"Yeah, look, I know that I'm way outside my paygrade here. But she still isn't here, is she?" Clint stands.
"No, that's my point–"
"It can't– be undone. Or that's at least what the red floating guy had to say. (shouts) Maybe you wanna go talk to him, okay? GO GRAB YOUR HAMMER, AND YOU GO FLY AND TALK TO HIM!" Clint screams. Clint's anger is quickly replaced with grief,
"It was supposed to be me. She sacrificed her life for that goddamn stone. She bet her life on it.""Will you just Stop! She's not coming back Thor!" I look up in anger.
In a burst of anger, Bruce grabs a bench and hurls it clear across the lake. His anger spent, he turns to us with a resigned look on his face "She's not coming back. We have to make it worth it. We have to."
"We will." I nod, staring at Thor with a dirty look.
I slowly walk behind the group as we head back inside, Clint stops and looks at me, "I'm so sorry Y/N....I tried to stop her." He whispers.
"Don't. Don't blame yourself Clint." I rub his shoulder. Clint pulls me in and hugs me tightly, "It's okay." I whisper.
Clint smiles and wipes both of our eyes, he holds my hand as we go inside.
I double tap my bracelet to put my suit on as I enter the lab. The gauntlet was completed.
