A New World ?G.W?

"Luna are you serious?" I giggle while making my way between the long tables of the Great Hall towards my usual seat at the Ravenclaw table. Luna and I had been best friends since her first day at Hogwarts, despite being in the year below; I was the first person to congratulate her when she was sorted and we've stuck together ever since, even going as far as swapping dorms so we could share. I had friends in my year as well, all my classes were with Padma, Lisa, and Mandy from my house so we got on well enough, and I suppose I was friends with the Gryffindor boy I've been tutoring in potions since last year, but really Luna was my best friend.

I had nearly made it to my seat when I heard my name from the table next to mine. "Y/N!" The Gryffindor I mentioned called, he also earns the attention from a few others at the table which made him turn slightly red.

"Hey Neville, what's up?" Neville was really quite sweet, when Snape first asked me to help out a fellow student I was quite nervous, but conversation comes easy with Neville and I actually began to look forward to our weekly sessions in the library.

"Not a lot really, I had that test in Potions today and I thought it went quite well but I probably didn't you know what I'm like..." he muttered, becoming ashamed of his excitement. He was so easily flustered I felt bad for him, I wish he had the confidence he should have, and I'd made it my secret mission to build up his self esteem.

"Neville I'm sure you did amazing, don't even worry" I beam at him and earn one of his broad smiles back.

Our conversation is interrupted by the small Irish boy next to Neville nudging him, "Neville, aren't you going to introduce us to your friend" which for some reason makes Neville turn even more pink.

"Oh yeah sorry, um this is Y/N, she's been helping me with Potions. Y/N this is Seamus and Dean" He says indicating to the other Gryffindor at the table. I smile politely and say hello but I'm always a little shy at first, so am eager to just get back to my table. Before I can excuse myself, Seamus speaks again.

"You know Gryffindor are having a party in the common room on Friday night, a kind of celebration for surviving the first month back, you should come." He says, adding an easy smile that makes me almost want to say yes. Almost.

I'm searching my brain for an excuse when Neville looks up at me, "Please Y/N?" and I know I can't say no now. "Okay, yeah, can my friend come?" If I'm doing this, I need Luna with me.

"Of course she can" Dean says, speaking up for the first time and I decided I liked him. A good thing really considering I'll be attending a party with him.

"Perfect see you there, and don't make too many plans for Saturday morning, the Weasley twins are generous with refreshments" he says with a wink, which makes me regret my decision a little bit knowing a fair bit about the reputation of the twins. Too late now though...

"You know we really don't have to go if you'd rather not" I say to Luna while applying some mascara, trying to sound casual about the whole thing, despite the anxiety that seems to be spreading through my body.

"I want to go, and you do to, you're just nervous." Luna says plainly, while putting in some colourful dangly earrings.

"Oh you do put the 'wise' in 'wise old Ravenclaw'" I tell her with a nervous laugh.

"Not the old though, that's all you" she retorts with a cheeky smile.

"Hey! Rude!" I say but I'm laughing too.

"Okay, ready?" Luna questions turning around and I take in her look. Luna is an icon when it comes to outfits that I would look ridiculous in that she manages to make look cute. Today it was a black mesh blouse with a yellow corduroy skirt that would make anyone else look like Winnie the Pooh, but not Luna.

"Woah Luna you look gorgeous!" I say truthfully and her cheeks turn slightly pink.

I suddenly feel a bit unsure about my white polo, grey knitted vest, and black skirt and turn to the mirror, assessing myself, messing with my y/h/c hair, tucking it behind my ear, and then changing it again.

"Y/N, you look great, come on lets go before the party ends" she takes my hand and I allow myself to be pulled from our dorm room towards Gryffindor tower.

I could hear the music from the corridor and the lady on the painting seemed to be enjoying herself, singing her own words to the songs being played. Just as I was wondering how we were meant to get in without a password, Dean Thomas swung open the portrait and looked at us as if he wasn't fully convinced we were there at first.

"How do they always know when people are here?" he said shaking his head, although I didn't know who he was referring to, "whatever, come in!"

We make our way through the portrait hole, Luna complimenting the lady on her singing, which seemed to make both of them happy.

I'd never been to the Gryffindor common room so I didn't know what it was I was walking into, but it was very different to the Ravenclaws. Maroon and gold banners cluttered every spare space on the walls, and tables and sofas had been pushed aside to allow space for the many, many people who were dancing, talking and drinking. I was a bit shocked, but a rush of excitement went through me, and seeing the smile on Luna's face, I can tell she had a similar feeling.

Before we could say anything, Neville spotted us and rushed over. "Hey Y/N, I'm glad you can come!" He greeted me enthusiastically before noticing Luna and his signature pink flush overcome him, "H- Hi I'm Neville" He grinned and stuck out his hand, only to put it down again looking embarrassed, as if a handshake may have offended Luna.

"I'm Luna Lovegood" the blonde smiled and picked up his hand from his side giving it a shake, which earns her another smile and a faint blush from the boy.

"Well let me introduce you to my friends!" He says and begins to lead us over to a group of three students in our year.

Hey! Welcome to my first fanfiction! Little note about the story, it takes place in 4th year but there will be no tournament! There will still be plenty of danger though, don't worry!
