"Nate, you know you can't have toys at the table. It'll still be there waiting for you when you're done." A sighs, clearly not in the mood to have to argue with the five year old. In response to his command, Nate turns away and holds the robot in tighter - clearly ready to throw a tantrum if it had to be pried off him.
"You're such a baby. Just give A the stupid toy." Miheal pipes in, which clearly upset Nate - who immediately tries throwing a kick Miheal's way while his arms lock around his toy.
"Hey! No kicking!" A exclaims, putting his arm in between the two boys as he puts the other plate in his hand down.
"And Miheal, don't be so mean to him, you're old enough to-" A begins, but Miheal clearly didn't listen, because he leaned over and tries taking - or rather prying the toy off Nate, which quickly spurred on a fight between the two kids.
It was times like this where I kind of missed L being around. Not because of anything to do with him, but moreso his way of dealing with those two terrors. He would be able to get that toy off Nate in a second, and if it got to the point where him and Miheal were fighting he would only have to look at them to get them to quit it.
A was clearly struggling to fill that role.
"That's it! Miheal, if you don't leave Nate alone you're not getting any chocolate after dinner!" He snaps as he pries the two boys off of each other, which made the child in question freeze, before tearing up and looking down at the floor while Nate sticks his tongue out at him.
"Wait- that's not what I....ugh..." He mutters, bringing his hand to his temples momentarily.
"Thanks for the help with these two." He says, looking up at me.
"Not my strong suit, I'm afraid. No way they'll listen to me." I answer, honestly finding his attempts at trying to wrangle those two little nightmares quite entertaining. But unfortunately, I knew it would come to an end as soon as I saw Watari come into the room and notice the commotion. Swiftly stepping over, A turns as soon as he hears the steady steps approaching.
"Nate. Give that to me please, I'll take care of it until you're done." He says only slightly sternly, coming up behind the five year old's seat and holding out a hand. Almost instantly, Nate turns around and passes it over, making Miheal pout more than he already was.
"When is L coming back?" The five year old innocently asks once he passes over the plastic robot - clearly using the fact that he was being good to find out more about his missing mentor.
"Soon. But for now focus on eating your dinner. And Miheal, stop sulking please." Watari sternly continues, putting up a stony exterior at the mention of L's name, before walking toward the staff table across the room.
Unfortunately, the answer of 'soon' wouldn't come to be quite yet.
Not if I had anything to do with it.
-One Week Later-
~♡~Your POV~♡~
The mornings were steadily getting getting cooler every day, and the leaves on the trees were starting to change ever so slightly from thier brilliant greens to a more muted and yellow toned pallet. It was well into September by this point, and you and L had been staying on the move slowly, starting to enjoy being out on your own together rather than trying to get from point A to point B as quick as possible. In fact, seeing as you weren't spending nearly as much on accommodation, you had settled into your little camper rather nicely.
You had figured out how to fill up the water tank, bought a small kettle for tea and coffee, thrifted a few extra sweaters and board games for the incoming cold weather, and even set up some cute fairy lights around the ceiling. It was actually quite homey.
