Chapter 3: "Deal"

"Ugh, fine," Nightmare said annoyed.

"So what deal do you wanna make?" I asked sort of enjoying this.

Nightmare rolled his eyes at me and replied, "I don't care you pick something. Nothing that will hurt me though."

"Okay," I said and thought about it. I grinned; I had the perfect deal.

Flashback (Bill's POV):

"Truth or dare, Nightmare?" I asked him.

"...Truth," he said after thinking about it.

"Who is your crush?" I asked him with a lenny face.

Nightmare's face immediately flushed to a bright teal blush. He whispered something under his breath, but I couldn't hear him. "I couldn't hear you," 404 teased.

"Ugh, fine. ...K-Killer," he sighed.

"You like Killer?!" 404 and me exclaimed.

"Shut up!" Nightmare said embarrassed.

End Of Flashback

"My side of the deal is you have to confess to Killer," I said smirking.

Nightmare shot 404 and me death glares and said, "Fine, but my side of the deal is you have to do the same with your crush."

I blushed and thought Was I that obvious? I noticed 404 looked a bit upset, but I ignored it.

I extended my hand out to Nightmare as he did the same. My hand glowed a familiar blue fire as we shook hands.

"Deal," We both said.

"I hate you both," Nightmare said blushing.

I stuck my tongue(s) out at him and 404 just sat there smirking.

"It's starting get late. I'm going to head back to the anti-void," 404 told us.

"Okay," Nightmare said.

"See ya soon!" I said waving to him.

He smiled, even though it was forced he was trying, and waved back.

I turned to Nightmare with a serious expression. "Why does he act like that?" I asked worried.

Nightmare sighed and started to explain, "I'm not sure what caused it, but he has always acted like that. He isn't emotionless, he just hides his emotions. It's hard for him to feel much which is part of the reason why I hang out. I mean, I still hang out with him because I enjoy it, but I also try helping him with his emotions. Usually we'll play games to help him with his emotions. Whenever he laughs or smiles, it means we're making progress."

I took a second to process the information and replied, "Oh." I couldn't think of anything else to say. My best friend/crush couldn't show emotions very well. Something or someone caused him to hide his emotions. Nightmare has been helping him, but he's only been making a little progress. Thoughts raced through my head trying to understand what Nightmare had said. "Bill?" Nightmare's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"You zoned out. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, it's just a lot to process."

"Yeah it is, but don't worry. We will help him," Nightmare said giving me a kind smile.

"...Okay" I said hesitantly.

"I have another question though," I started, "How did you know I liked someone?!"

Nightmare gave me a small, sad smile. "You would always blush at 404. Especially when he was smiling or laughing. The only problem is you have to confess to him because of the deal."

"Why is that a bad thing?" I asked blushing.

Nightmare sighed and slowly said, "Remember? His emotions... don't really exist. He doesn't let them show..."

I felt my face fall as I realized what Nightmare was saying. 404 couldn't return my feelings because he could barely feel emotions. I didn't even realize I was crying until Nightmare came over and gave me a hug. "I promise we will find a way to help him," he whispered to me.

I wiped my eyes and said, "Okay."

I decided to go to Outertale to calm down. Nightmare said that a lot of the Bad Guys, including 404, liked this AU. I went into Outertale and looked up at the stars. It reminded me of the time when 404 and me went outside and looked at the stars during the reunion. I smiled sadly at the memory that seemed like forever ago. I closed my eyes as I heard a voice behind me. "Mind if I join?"

I looked behind me to see 404. I smiled at him and said, "Not at all!" He layed down next to me and looked at the starry sky. We sat together in silence looking into the night sky. I looked over and saw 404, shockingly, smiling. "It's so calming isn't it?" he asked turning to me.

"Yeah, it is," I agreed. I waited a moment before speaking again. "404?" I asked.

"Yes?" he replied back.

"...Nightmare told me about your... emotions," I said quietly. I was afraid he'd get mad and yell or teleport away, but instead he just simply said, "Oh, okay."

"You're not mad?" I asked confused.

"Why would I be mad?" He said looking at me.

"I just thought you wouldn't want anyone to know."

He chuckled and said, "If I didn't want anyone to know I wouldn't have told Nightmare."

"...Can I help you?" I asked him hesitantly.

He looked at me for a minute and replied, "Look, I appreciate you wanting to help, but some things just can't be fixed."

"But..." I started.

"No buts. I'll end up hurting you." He said his voice empty again.

I just started at him. "You can get you emotions back though! You don't want to hurt me because you care!" I pleaded, "Please, let me try to get you emotions back!"

"No." he said firmly.

"Please!"

He just shook his head.

"I want to help you!" I yelled.

He went silent for a minute. "You... want to help... me?"

I closed my eyes and nodded my head, "Yes, I do." I said quieter.

He sighed and I opened my eyes.

"Fine you can help me or whatever. Don't say I didn't warn you though," he told me.

I hugged him tightly and said, "Thank you!" I felt him hug me back and we stayed there and eventually, we both fell asleep.
