Start from the beginning

I gently pushed open the door, quickly taking in my surroundings. I could feel the blood rushing in my ears, but I didn't happen to see a cunning merc on the sofa like I was promised. In its place lay a wrinkled note.

You're going to have to do better than that if you want to find me that bad.

My heart began to hammer in my chest when I read the note. My fear dissolved into a shrill laugh as I crumpled the note in my hand. I hadn't had this much fun chasing a target in a long time.

After all, it's better when your prey struggles.

A broken grin was plastered to my lips as I flew out the door. He had left behind a torn piece of a map, but I knew that wasn't where he was really going to head. He wasn't a boring prey.

I was able to piece the puzzle together as I began to break into a run. I tore out of the gates of Goodneighbor, knowing that the eyes of the city were laughing while I went. After all, Goodneighbor is who got me into this business, and they loved to watch me work.

I was eventually led to a place that looked like an old, small complex of homes. The homes were flooded by lots of water, but I didn't mind getting a little bit muddy. It isn't hunting if you don't get dirty. I began to tread into the water, it's coldness piercing my vaultsuit.

I creeped up the crumbling foundations of the houses, all of my senses on high alert. I was ready for anything, or so I thought. The sound of the ground being ripped apart startled me, but I aimed my gun towards the noise just as quickly as it came.

Mirelurks began to shoot up all over the terrain, and I was trapped on top of the very homes that sneaky bastard had lead me to. I began to giggle to myself again, looking down the sights of my pistol.

I tore through the crustaceans with ease, enjoying the fun of the hunt. Even though they weren't fun to hunt, the hunt is still the hunt.

Something shiny caught my eye, and I walked over to it. A knife was stuck out of one of the Mirelurk corpses, and I walked over to it. Stuck to the back of it was a note that read:

You're probably a little bit tired from your hike over here. You should really head home... who knows? Maybe I'll make a dog coat when we get there.

It was the same penmanship. MacCready. The bastard. I had no issue with murdering humans, but the one thing I had an issue with was people threatening my dog.

I wiped the mud from my face and began my hurried return to Sanctuary. This MacCready guy could just be pulling my leg, but I didn't want to risk the possibility that he could kill my companion.

The caps those two gunners gave me didn't seem to hold any value as I tore through the Commonwealth's landscape. Before nightfall, I was dashing across the rotting bridge that led to my home.

My friends and other settlers randomly greeted me as I stumbled through the gates I had set up around the place. "DOGMEAT!" I screamed, my throat hurting from the exertion, "DOGMEAT! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

I heard some shuffling and the jingle of a collar as my furry friend tore across the cracked pavement. He leapt into my arms, covering my face in slobbery kisses. I crumpled to the ground, clutching onto his fur like my life depended on it.

"Damn that stupid guy," I muttered to myself, hurrying my face in Dogmeat's coat, "I have to go check something, okay boy?"

Dogmeat yipped back and trotted off towards Nick. The synth outstretched his hand to the dopey canine, and Dogmeat flopped down next to him.

I drew my pistol out and began to move towards my house in Sanctuary. Chances are, this little shit was waiting in there. I kicked open the door to my house, waiting for any kind of reaction.

Nothing happened, so I stepped in hesitantly. I quickly felt my wrists get grabbed my calloused hands, knocking my weapon from my hand. I thrashed against the grip, trying to shout. Another hand clasped over my lips, and I was shoved against the wall.

I could feel the man pressed against me, both of my wrists in one of his large hands while the other restricted my mouth. My eyes were filled with a burning hatred as I heard his heavy breathing.

"Mmph-!" I growled, biting the skin on his hand. MacCready didn't flinch, and he instead dared to laugh lowly.

"I know you were sent here to kill me," his voice rasped, "but I have a better proposition for you."

His hand slipped off from my mouth, but the other still kept my wrists pressed against the wall and over my head. His knee was pressed against my thighs to prevent me from kicking. He was a smart bastard, I'll give him that.

"What did you propose, asshole?" I hissed, my eyes burning with hatred."

"Language," he chuckled, "And I propose we wreck that perfect little track record of yours."

"Why the hell would I-"

"We should shoot the two of your customers dead instead. A far more fun hunt, don't you think?"
