It was official. I hated the Glowing Sea.
Despite my power Armor, the wail of the radiation storms pierced my ears. Sand -at least I think it was sand- blew onto every part of the power armor, immensely discoloring it. Danse was going to freak out about that.
MacCready was diligently following behind me, suited up in one of his own sets. The thunks of our steps echoed throughout the landscape, surprisingly not alerting the endless amounts of radiated creatures that littered the landscape.
"Are we there yet?" MacCready whined like a child, his distorted voice startling me slightly.
"Obviously we're not there yet, dipshit," I snapped back, glancing back at him. I looked forward again, feeling a little bad for my outburst. "We're almost there though. My Pip-Boy says we only have a little ways to go."
MacCready's response was just an exaggerated sigh. He was clearly annoyed at our seemingly mindless ambling throughout this hellscape, but we needed to find Virgil. For Shaun.
I noticed a location pop up on the Pip-Boy screen. As per-usual, I got a bit sidetracked and headed towards it. Curiosity was one of my biggest faults, but what if it had something useful in it?
"Hey... is this the right way?" MacCready asked, jogging up to my side.
"No, it's not, but I want to check it out really quick. We'll probably never come back here, so I want to look at everything there is."
MacCready sighed again, but nonetheless, I heard the thump of his footsteps following me. A triumphant smile found its way onto my face as we persisted forwards. We filled up the intimidating silence of the Glowing Sea with some scattered small talk, but it was cut off when my Pip-Boy beeped out. The location was just named 'cave.'
"What?" MacCready laughed, looking over my shoulder to see what the supposed location we discovered was.
"It just says cave," I responded, glancing over to see MacCready's confused face.
His eyes scanned the mounds of forgotten trash and other random articles in front of us. "I don't see a cave anywhere," he deduced, "But something feels a bit off here."
"I sense that too," I muttered, taking the Kremvh's Tooth out from the holster across my back. MacCready followed what I did by pulling out his rifle, holding it out cautiously in front of him.
We proceeded to nervously examine different spots in the location, but no cave was in sight. A startled scream was the next thing out of my mouth as a loud bang sounded from behind MacCready and me. A albino radscorpion and a deathskull radscorpion emerged from the earth, lunging at MacCready and me.
Panic surged through my veins; these things were infamous for tearing power armor apart. If one of our pieces broke, we'd be susceptible to immense radiation and even more bodily damage from these fuckers.
I switched my sword for the Overseer's Guardian, hastily firing bullets into the beady eyes of the beasts. MacCready's rifle wasn't much good against these creatures, but he was doing his best. I was trying to get them off of him by shooting them relentlessly. However, MacCready and I opted to jog away for some higher ground.
"These things have more health than Behemoths," MacCready fearfully shouted to me, fumbling to get a better gun to use.
"Shit," I growled in response, taking stance on one of the piles of rubble. The crackling of the crustaceans legs drowned out the sound of the raging radiation storm that was brewing overhead. MacCready and I fired a spray of bullets onto them, so they decided to burrow into the ground. The sudden silence was filled by our heavy breathing.
