"No." Noel, and his father suddenly replied to the human man in unison.

Noel stepped forward and pushed Evette gently behind him, almost as if the human guard were going to take her from him. As if he could pry beautiful, young Eve from his strong arms.

"Why?" The human asked, his tone challenging.

Evette held onto Noel's hand for protection. She knew she didn't need him to speak for her, but a part of herself loved when he did. After all, he was the only one who would take an arrow for her. He would do anything for her; that she knew.

"Look at me. . ." Eve stepped around Noel and glanced down awkwardly, her eyes scanning over her rather rugged attire. Her brown trousers were certainly not ladylike in the slightest, and the fitted leather vest that matched her platform boots was beat up. She looked like a poor map maker, or a blacksmith's daughter. She certainly did not look like the elven king's daughter.

"You aren't the clothes on your back." The dark haired man said simply.

Evette couldn't argue with the human soldier. He was right. The clothes she wore should not define her, but they did. Even though being the princess the kingdom wanted didn't mean Evette could wear whatever she wanted, she still wore what she wanted anyway. Making her the pathetic outcast, that no one in their right mind would listen to or love. At least, that's what her stepmother had always said when she was a child.

"What is the meaning of this?" A deep voice boomed as heavy footsteps neared Evette and Noel.

Everyone sank to their knees as soon as they realized who was approaching in his shiny armor and long silk cloak. Arwin, the Elven King.

"The Knights from Drogen have arrived Your Excellency." Nicerius said as he arose from a low, graceful bow.

"I can see that." Arwin replied dryly as he eyed the human men that stood beside their tall brown horses.

The confident human man who led his group cleared his throat before speaking. "Milord', I was just telling Lord Nicerius that my men and I are well rested. With your permission, we'd like to depart from Tigerstar today. I have been informed that Lady Quill, Lord Finn's daughter, has fallen ill and may not be able to make the ten day journey to the Kingdom of Drogen." The man said seriously.

Evette's father paused, his hand rested on the handle of his golden sword. "What's your name?" He asked the man.

"Narcisse Sterling, Milord'." The man answered, his jaw tensing as he watched the king look him up and down challengingly.

"Well Sterling," Arwin took an unamused breath. "It's 'my lord', and you should be more respectful when talking to my daughter. She may be a disgrace to this family, but she is still my blood, and I would never sentence her to a ten day ride into a foreign kingdom. The King in the West can be demanding and harsh on his own time and on his own land, but he does not control us or anything here."
