8 - like a little puppy

Start from the beginning

Dream decides to stop. He decides to take George seriously.

"So, have you seen your mom yet?"

"No." George tells him, his breath quick to leave.

Dream smirks, placing his hand against his forehead. "When are you planning on doing it?"

"I don't know."

"Yesterday you said you'd go today."

"Well i changed my mind. I'll go tomorrow."

"If you keep saying that, you'll end up never going. Didn't you say you called her one night but she didn't pick up?"

"Mhm."

George couldn't control his small breath hitches. Maybe right now he needs a minute to take care of his own situation.

"I promise everything is going to be fine." Dream informs George, placing his hand on his own desk to pretend it was George's hand.

George is silent.

"I just want to see you." George's breath suddenly shakes. "Why does life have to be so goddamn hard?"

Dreams eyes wander everywhere.

"George. You might hate me for what I'm about to say, but I'm gonna say it anyways. Do you.. just suddenly want to visit because you need a distraction?"

Patches looks up at Dream willingly.

He smiles back down at her.

George sucks in a sharp breath.

"I want you." He whispers.

Dream swallows saliva back down his throat that had been resting on his tongue. George would've never said these exact words a few days ago.

"Why?"

"Because I can't control how I feel."

"But you don't want to get attached. You'll have to leave again."

"I know. I will have to leave again. Which is why.. you and I don't have to do anything physically. We can be best friends in each other's company. We don't have to talk about love or the future with me leaving again. Just best buds that happen to like each other."

Dream felt like George had just jabbed a knife into his heart.

"Now I understand what you mean by ground rules.."

"Yeah. No kissing, no stupid flirting, and we stay in our own beds."

Another knife, and another, and another.

"Sometimes you can't always get what you want, Dream. Or perhaps, who you want. This is what is best for both of us right now. For now."

Dream did not want this. At all. But he also knew George didn't want this, yet he still said it. When George would visit next time, the two would have to act like best bros plus Sapnap.

'Best bros' did not sit right with him.

Nevertheless George is right.

He always is.

"Okay."

"Thank you, Dream. Thank you for everything you have ever done, and thank you for understanding whatever I say and do."

A tear manages to fight its way down Dreams cheek.

"Of course."

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight," Dream replied. Usually the sound of the call hanging up didn't strike him so hard in the chest, but this time it did.

He kept in the sobs, but let the tears fall at their own pace. He fed Patches dinner and got into bed.

Dream had no motivation to check Twitter. No motivation to update fans on future streams. No motivation to call his friends or family for emotional help.

He should've just been grateful George was coming at all.

Why does this have to hurt so bad? Why can't I just have him all to myself?

Dream fell asleep with Patches right beside him curled up and comforting.

-

"Yo what the hell!" Lucas started to yell at the tv, standing up and waving his hands.

George glared at the dumb  move a player made. "That was stupid." He told Lucas.

As Lucas began yelling again, George noticed Hollie rush in through the front door and quickly slam, lock and lean against it. She had mascara running down her face as someone pounded on the door.

"Hollie! Get the fuck out if you're gonna cry!" Lucas shouted at her.

Hollie only began breaking down again, trying her best to wipe her eyes.

Honestly, George felt bad for her. He had no idea why she was crying but she was.

Hollie trudged into the living room, sitting beside George and wiping more dried out makeup stains away.

"Are you good?" George decided on asking.

She glared. "Does it look like I'm good? I just got broken up with over having a male roommate."

She sniffled.

I do not want to do this right now.

"Oh. I'm really sorry that happened, Hollie."

"Yeah."

Oh my god go away I am so terrible at comforting people

Lucas's yells just played in the back round.

"If it makes you feel any better somehow, I had a pretty shit day yesterday."

"How does that make me feel better?"

"I don't know, you seem like the type to put your own happiness before others."

Hollie stared him down with daggers in her eyes.

"Sorry, bad joke."

"Hey, it wasn't that bad. You just kinda seem like a loser."

Was he supposed to take that as a compliment? Didn't seem like one.

"Tell me, George, why did you have a bad day yesterday?"

Because I had to tell Dream we can't fucking kiss when I visit him.

"I was just tired all day."

Hollie muttered something under her breath that he didn't hear.

"Must be so tired having to stay in your apartment all day," she noted sarcastically.

George stayed silent as Lucas started to violently shake the tv.

"Luke you fucking idiot!" Hollie shrieked, jumping up from her spot on the couch. She grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the tv.
