Nat and I stood at the sink doing the dishes together, after volunteering ourselves the boys were more than happy to tidy up the lounge. It had been pretty peaceful until she started asking questions.
"So now that we're alone, do you want to tell me what's going on with you and Loki?"
I don't look up from the sink as I reply to her "What do you mean?"
"Come on Kathy" She turns her body to me, putting a hand on her hip. "We wake up and you're all cuddled up together?"
"So? I've slept next to almost everyone at some point" I shrug at her, rinsing off another plate and handing it to her.
Taking it with a sigh she continues. "Fine, what about all the looks you give each other. You spend a lot of time together. I saw how flustered you were when you came back from the showers last night"
I turn my head sharply at that but she just smirks at me, clearly I've just given myself away.
"So there is something going on then" It's no longer a question.
I sigh and look back down at the sink. "I don't even know what's going on with us. We are so hot and cold with each other but then when we're alone... It's been a long time since I had any kind of relationship and I'm not exactly sure what it is he wants from me."
"So ask him. Better to find out before it carries on right?" She dries off another plate and then dries her hands, passing me the towel after I empty the sink. "Relax Kathy, what's the worst that could happen?"
"I know, Nat. I'm scared of getting hurt. It's been such a long time since I trusted anyone with my feelings." I furrow your brow and she puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Look, I know you've had a shitty past but think about it. You trusted us with your feelings, we all love you. We're a family and you can see that Loki is slowly beginning to trust us all and puts in a little effort now and again. If things were to evolve between you then look on the bright side, at least he will live as long as you do. If that's not a plus side I don't know what is" I can't help but laugh at her optimism and pull her in for a hug.
"Thanks Nat" I say quietly into her ear. She gives me a squeeze and then we part to finish putting everything away.
Back in the lounge the boys are all sat around, couches back in their original positions, the blankets and pillows that Loki had summoned had vanished.
Tony gets up from his seat after we get back into the room.
"Right, quick meeting. The bombs are gone thanks to Jarvis and a small squad of staff so everyone is free to sleep in their own rooms again. Loki, Kathy. Sorry to say it but you're going to need new doors but other than that, from what the teams have seen the damage is pretty minimal. Doors have already been ordered and should be here this afternoon." I smile at him and smiles back.
"Now it seems this wasn't an effort to kill anyone more likely it was to get our attention given how little damage the bombs actually did. Jarvis is already running facial recognition to try and find the guy who got in here so hopefully we can get some answers. Questions?" He looks around as everyone says no.
"Ok great." He sits back down in the chair and crosses his ankles. "So what's everyone up to this weekend?"
"I was going to go and see the family with Nat" Clint speaks up. Nat nods to confirm.
"I'm also going to be out of town working on something but you can call me if I'm needed" Cap adds.
Bruce speaks next "I'll be working in a lab downtown. They've got some pretty interesting equipment that might help out with communication for missions." You look at him with an eyebrow raised but he just pretends to zip his lips and looks away.
