'And that's the problem.'
----
Aizawa was in a faculty meeting at lunch, so this left me to wander the school instead. I wasn't quite hungry, despite forgetting to have breakfast. Instead of having lunch, I explored a bit.
A head of pink hair with goggles sitting atop caught my eye. This was the girl from the festival, who I'd been wanting to talk to. I walked up to her, a bit nervous to approach a new person.
"H-Hatsume Mei?" She stopped in her tracks and turned to face me.
"Hey! You're that quirkless girl from the sports festival, right?" She smiled.
"Uh, yeah. I was wondering if... uh- we could-"
"YOU WANT ME TO LOOK AT YOUR YOYOS?!" She absolutely beamed.
"Yeah, pretty much! They need some work, I think. I was hoping if you had any ideas?" She grabbed my hand, pulling me off somewhere.
"LET'S GO TO THE WORKSHOP, YOU CAN MEET MY BABIES!"
"Um, alright!"
Entering the workshop, there were tools and things strewn about, and a large pile of support items in the corner.
"Oh, those are allll of my babies. I don't think I've ever made anything like your yoyos before, but I'll have a little look around. Can I take a look at yours?!" I obliged, pulling out my yoyos. She examined them thoroughly.
"Why are they different?"
"One got destroyed in the attack on USJ." I felt a pang in my chest.
"Ah, I see... How long are the strings?"
"I have a range of 'em, varying from 30 to 2m." She grinned devilishly at this.
"What if I told you I could eliminate any need for carrying different length strings?"
I furrowed my brows, wondering what the heck she had in mind.
"H-huh? So just one universal string length?"
"Yup! You know what, let me surprise you. When are you leaving school today?"
"I'll be in Gym Gamma from 3:30 till 5:30."
"I'll come find you!! Give me till the end of the day, you can have them back then!" She immediately started rummaging through her box of items.
"Uh, thank you so much! Are you sure it's okay?"
"Of course! Just remember me and my work when you become famous for being the first quirkless hero!" She winked at me. I laughed, thankful for her generosity.
"Alright. Thank you Hatsume."
With the sounds of whirrs and clinks in the background, I left and shut the door behind me.
I headed up the stairwell, hoping to relax in my favourite spot. Opening the doors to the roof, the sun shone through as always. The concrete was rough against my fingertips as I took a seat on a bit of wall near the ledge, and the breeze gently brushed my hair out of my face. I took out my headphones, turning them on and putting them in my ears. The music flowed through my head whilst I gazed at the city.
'Lemon boy and me just gotta get along, together. I helped him plant his seeds and we'd mow the lawn, in bad weather. It's actually pretty easy being nice, to a bitter boy like him, so I got myself, a citrus friend.'
Lighting my first cigarette in 2 weeks, I took a huge drag, savouring it. I was immediately met with a headrush from the nicotine. Pulling out my phone, I thought to check the news. I hadn't checked that in about 2 months, but I did wonder if there were any articles about the sports festival despite it being 2 weeks ago. Sure enough, there were plenty of news pieces and discussions still going.
