The next day went by almost in a blur. I was sure that more than one coworker was giving me a side eye but I couldn't find the will to care.
Mikey had kissed me! Multiple times! And he wanted to be together with me so don't look at me like that Brenda and do your work.
Needless to say that there was a constant smile taped on my face for the rest of the day that slowly creeped out everyone. Well not everyone but at least the old man on the bench in the park that I walked past and waved at. He had waved back confused before I had taken a seat under my favourite tree out of his view.
And there I sat now and told Hannah in detail everything about yesterday. She was almost squealing on the other end of the call and if she would be sitting next to me, I was sure we would both jump up and down embarrassingly. I was in love, okay? Oh no no no, not in love already, we had only been dating for a literal day! I liked Mikey very much and surely I was getting there, but not in love already.
Until Hannah abruptly stopped in her rant. "Wait. I haven't met Mikey yet. That's unacceptable, I need to meet my best friend's boyfriend."
"Uh" I said intelligently. "Maybe not already? I mean we've only been dating for a day."
She huffed and I knew that she was crossing her arms. "Bullshit, you're seeing him for three weeks now. You two were just too much of cowards to admit it. But I accept it, just introduce us when you're ready, yeah Y/N?"
I sighed relieved and rubbed my left hand over my face. Partly, I felt guilty for not wanting them to meet but I wanted this to be right and as much as I loved Hannah, I knew that she was unpredictable sometimes. "Yes, thank you."
We chatted for a bit more, mostly about the previous date and Hannah's job at the animal shelter. They had just gotten another pregnant cat and she was really concerned for her as she was already due despite being with them for such a short time. I promised to swing by to offer comfort to her and the cat.
After work, Mikey called me and asked about my day. It was cute how shy he got despite the fact that he had been so confident yesterday and today almost hesitantly asked if Jane from the second floor was still bothering me. So of course, I told him all the newest gossip I had to listen to at the canteen where I supplied myself with coffee. Mikey laughed at my extremely pained voice.
In exchange, Mikey told me about the next few concerts that had been planned today. They all would be in an area of two flying hours and he assured me that they would never stay away longer than three days. Then, Mikey started to complain playfully about Gerard's fussing over the tiny details and told me how Ray almost killed Frank today after he stole his favourite guitar strap to hide it. I laughed at the mental image of Ray chasing Frank through the studio and Mikey promised to show me the video he had taken of them.
After Mikey had complained enough about the next radio interview (the last time they had been at that station, no one had cared for coffee and now my crazy boyfriend was scared that he wouldn't get any), I told him about the pregnant cat.
As if on cue, Lucy jumped onto me and meowed loudly. Mikey laughed. "Was that your cat?"
"Yeah, she got jealous of all the attention I'm giving to you and not her," I joked and petted my cat as she rubbed her little head insistently on my hand.
"Oh, tell her I'm terribly sorry for depriving her of cuddles," Mikey chuckled.
Lucy meowed again as if she wanted to say 'you should be', making both of us only laugh louder. But she didn't care and rolled in on my lap contently as I continued to pet her.
"I think she accepts your apology, though you might bribe her with some treats," I explained dramatically. Lucy threw in a helpful meow.
That made both of us crack up completely. "Well, then I have to do my best the next time I'm around. I promise to bring something that both of you will like."
But because it had been a long day, and I didn't get much sleep the night prior, I had to cut the call short because my eyes felt like someone was hanging tiny little weights on my lashes, forcing my eyes to shut. Very reluctantly though, I said goodnight to Mikey who seemed to be as sad as me to stop talking. And I was curious what he meant by 'something that both of you will like'. But I couldn't exactly just pester him to tell me. Though I tried.
After I ended the call, I made myself something to eat and went straight to bed because sleep was awesome, just not as awesome as talking to Mikey. And suddenly my bed felt way too big for just me so I curled in on myself as much as possible.
Lucy, the good soul, sensed this and nestled herself between my body and pulled up legs. The last thing I heard before I fell asleep were her soft purrs.
