《 Chapter 6 》

Start from the beginning

The girl has been waiting for nearly ten minutes until she heard a low groan. She glanced up to see the man slowly waking up on his slumber. He rubbed his eyes with his fingers and opened them. All of the sudden, he heard a familiar voice below him. "Oh, you're finally awake Mr. Thin Man." He looked down to see the same (h/c) girl from last night, staring at him. The tall man could only look at her in silence with his surprised face. "You're... You're back... You're actually back... I'm surprised to see you visited me again," he stuttered. "How long have you've been here?" he asked. "For nearly 10 minutes. I'm sorry I didn't wake you up Mr. Thin Man, you looked very peaceful when you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you up," she said with a smile. The Thin Man looked away bashfully. "I... I thought you'll leave me here alone," he murmured, hoping the girl didn't hear his response. Unfortunately, she heard him and her smile dropped. She tilted her head. "Why would I ever leave you, Mr. Thin Man? You are very nice to me and I want to be your friend. I would never leave you. After all, I want to see you again, and that's why I've returned!" she said. Her words made the man shocked with his eyes widened. His face shown a small blush and his heart began to pound fast. 'Is... Is it true... that she wants to be my friend? How would I know she wouldn't abandon me? But she did say she wouldn't leave me...' His mind wouldn't stop racing then realized the girl was still standing, waiting for him.

He shut his eyes and clear his throat. "W-Well then. If that's the case, why don't you come here and sit over here? And please don't call me Mr. Thin Man, Thin Man would be just fine." He gently grabbed (Y/N) with his hand and placed her on his lap. The girl made herself comfy on her spot. "Now that you're here, what do you want to talk about?" the Thin Man asked the (h/c) girl. She hummed and began to think. "How about we ask each other questions to learn about ourselves?" she suggested. The Thin Man nodded to her suggestion, "Yes, I suppose we can do that." (Y/N) pats her thighs as she swings her legs softly. "So, who's going first?" she asked as she looked up. The Thin man sighs, "I guess I'll go first."

The Thin Man puts his finger on his chin, thinking of a question for her. "How old are you?" he asked. The girl answered, "I am 14/15" (The age you chose from chapter 5), she answered. "I see," Thin Man replied. "Now it's my turn to ask a question," (Y/N) continued, "How old are YOU?" The Thin Man answered, "I am 67." The girl's eyes widened from hearing the high number. "Oh wow," she blurted. The man chuckled at her reaction. "Yep, I'm quite old," he sighed. Hearing his response made the girl realize and regrets asking the question. 'If he's that old, that means that's how long he has been trapped in the room.' She cleared her throat to break her thoughts. "Well... At least you're not that old. You still have a long time to live. And even if you're stuck here, I'll be here to keep you company." Thin Man let out a small smile. "Thank you," he said. (Y/N) smiled back and clap her hands together. "Okay. Since that question is answered, I believe it's your turn to ask me a question," she said.

The Thin Man closed his eyes to think. "I'm curious, is there anyone with you outside of this dreamscape?" he questioned. The girl nodded. "Yes, I do have friends with me," she answered. "Oh, who are they?" the man asked with curiosity. "Their names are Chip and Ted. They are nomes." The Thin Man raised his eyebrow, "Nomes?" he puzzled. "Mhm," (Y/N) nodded in response. "They are small with a cone-like head. Chip has a paper boat on his cone head and Ted has a purple bow tied on him," she added. "I see," the Thin Man replied, "You know, I've seen a nome before, probably around your age." "Really?" she said. The man nodded. "I was in a house that belongs to a hunter in the woods. I was in an attic, looking for something until I saw a nome. I followed it to the top of its secret hiding spot. After looking around, the nome went inside a hole and I followed it again. But once I got down and out of the hole, it disappeared," he recalled. The girl listened with her closed fists raised below her head in interest. All the nome talking reminded her of the other nomes back in the Maw. 'I wondered how they're all doing' she wondered.

"Now that being said, it is your turn to ask a question," the man chirped, booping the girl's nose. She giggled, making the man smile. She then looked around to think of what she could ask. She realizes the room is empty. She glances down on the floor to see the giant chair the man is sitting on. "I've noticed it's empty here. Do you usually sit here all day?" she asked. "Well..." started the Thin Man, "I could tell you, but it would be better to show you instead." He held out his hand towards (Y/N) and told her to hop on. The girl moved her body onto the man's giant hand and felt herself being lifted. He carefully placed her on his shoulder as she sat down. "Hold on tight," he encouraged her.

The girl tensed herself on her spot as the Thin Man stood up on his seat. He raised both of his hands in the air, making the room shaking. The light above began to dim as it flickers. The room began to slowly change; the walls have morphed into flesh as wires multiple wires formed. It leaves some space in a form of rectangles big and small, making them like screen monitors. The room stood still as the lights stopped flickering. The man then swung his hands down, facing his hands upwards. The screens lit up brightly as each screen shows a different scene. The (h/c) girl observes with her mouth agape and stars in her eyes. "Wow," she gasped, "What's all of this?"

The Thin man straightened his back and look at the girl on his shoulder. "This is what I do every day," he answered, "These screens here are shown around the city, including the outside of it. I can observe them through televisions," The girl looked at the big screen right in front of them. "So, you have the power to see through televisions?" she asks. The Thin Man nodded, "That is correct. Although, I cannot go through them". (Y/N) look through each screen, one shown an apartment room with a couch, and another shown a giant room with appears to be mannequins watching through the screen. But there's one that caught her eyes. It was the Viewers, a couple of them, watching with their head twitching. "The Viewers..." she breathed. The Thin Man looked at her confusingly. "Viewers?" he questioned. "Them., the Viewers!" she pointed towards the screen. "My nome friends and I have encountered them multiple times around the city. We just call them Viewers and avoid them as much as we can," she explained. "One time, one of them chased me for accidentally turning off the tv and almost got me. Luckily, Ted and Chip turned on the tv in time and the Viewer went back to gaze the screen again."

The Thin Man only hummed in response and look at the screens around him. "Now that I've remembered, how come I've never seen you or your nome friends anywhere through these screens," he asked (Y/N). The girl's eyes widened and sweat nervously. "Oh... We-Well, you see... How do I explain this?" she murmured. She starts twirling her hair, thinking what to say. "You see, ever since me and my nome friends encountered these Viewers, I...I have a little theory that if I watch or at least peek on the television screen I may end up like them. S-So we kept avoiding every single tv that is on around the city," she spluttered. The man smiled and giggles at her response, making the (h/c) girl flustered. "That is quite a good theory," he said, "and you got most of it correct." (Y/N) look at him with a surprised look. "I do?" she asked. "Yup," he replied. He sat down and explain to her how the television works. "You can look through the screens and it won't do any harm. But if you stare for too long, you might get addicted to it, not wanting to look away. The longer you stare at the screen, the slower you'll become like them." (Y/N) let out a small pout with a questioned expression. "That means I can pass by a television without any problems?" she asked. The Thin Man shook his head. "Yes, you can pass by them. Just don't stare at them for too long." The girl slumps forwards and sighed loudly. "Oh take goodness," she puffed out loud, "That makes things easier for us to scavenge around." The man let out a small laugh, making (Y/N) laugh along with him.

'The Thin Man isn't so bad at all,' she thought, 'He's actually very nice and fun to be with! I'm glad I met him. I hope we can be good friends...'
