Field Guide

You've heard of Medusa. We all have. Some see her as a misunderstood victim, some a villain, some just a neat snake person. She actually has a lot to do with this species, but she was not a Medusa (though before her they were just called Gorgons, inaccurately, I might add). To summarize Medusa's story, she was turned into a lady with snakes for hair and cursed to turn people to stone if they looked at her and sent away to live with her sisters. Athena, supposedly the goddess that cursed her, attempted to turn her into the actual Evercarant Medusa, which is why they seem so similar. However, because she's a dumbutt, Athena failed to do so accurately, so Medusa wasn't exactly like the Evercarant species her curse was based on. Despite this, the Evercarants that inspired Medusa's curse became known as Medusas.

Abilities

· Can switch between normal hair and snake hair

· Can control the snakes on their head (duh).

· They can turn people to stone by having the person look at their face. This only happens if a) the medusa is young and doesn't know how to control it or b) if they want it to. They can learn to control this skill.

· They can cause paralysis by glaring. Know, you don't have to look at them.

· They can turn into any type of snakes

· They spit some seriously corrosive venom. Stay away from sick medusas. You don't want to get sneezed on.

· Their fingernails are covered in a small amount of venom. Don't get scratched. Don't shake their hands.

· They can disguise themselves as normal people

· They can have legs or a snake tail. For those of you who know what a naga is, picture that. For those that don't, picture a snake mermaid.

· They can control nearby snakes

· They have fangs that can extend if they hiss at you. They do hiss. They do not overpronounce the "S" when they speak, though (unless they have a speech disorder). Stereotype

· They can reverse turning someone to stone if they feel like it.

Gorgons (yeah, also inaccurate. Deal with it)

· They can survive without their head. (Perseus is screwed)

· They can control all nearby reptiles (ALLIGATOR ARMY, RISE!)

· Their hissing can be hypnotic. Can be. Not all the time. This is an acquired skill.

· They are covered in poison. They can get rid of it if they want, but, don't hug them, just in case.

· They can turn you to stone without you looking at them.

Appearance

· Snake hair (duh)

· Very scaly. Not everywhere, though.

· They have fangs.

· Long claw-like fingernails

· They might wear something that looks like snake skin, depending on preference. They also shed, so they may wear their own skin. That made me shudder just typing it.

· Children wear blindfolds until they can control their ability to turn people to stone
