Grey had just gotten off work; it was another long day pretending she wasn't a Bleached. She's gotten pretty good at pretending, but she still messes up. Thankfully, most people think she's color blind versus being bleached. Grey Mercy, the girl who cannot see any colors that aren't on the greyscale, lives in this monotonous storm cloud but never gets the satisfaction of seeing a rainbow.
If she ever meets her soulmate and gets to touch skin-to-skin, she'll supposedly be able to see color again. Less than 1% of the people are Bleached worldwide, and even less than that find their soulmates. So, it probably won't happen to her. When you are Bleached, you lose your color when you hit puberty. You aren't born with it; Grey was 16 when the final color left her world. It was pink, her favorite color, and she was devastated when it was gone.
She was walking down the alley after her shift at the convenience store and heading to her little studio apartment when she heard some commotion behind her. Grey saw a boy running towards her with a panicked look. He barreled right into her, and she went tumbling down to the ground, taking him with her.
His plump lips landed on hers, and she felt dizzy. For the first time in so many years, she could see the color of the sky. The man on top of her had his eyes wide open in panic; he jumped up and pulled her with him. "I'm so sorry. Please forgive me; that was a complete accident."
Grey cocked her head to the side, he looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place where she knew him from. They heard many girls screaming, and he went into panic mode again. He took off running, and since he had ahold of her hand, he pulled her along.
They ran a few blocks, and he ducked behind a trash can. He looked surprised to see her with him, so she pulled her hand up, still clutched in his. "Oh, sorry. I need to get away from those crazy fans. Do you know anywhere I can hide until I can have someone come get me?"
"My apartment is one street over."
She suggested, and he nodded, agreeing, "Let's go."
Grey led the way, but he still hadn't let go of her hand. It took some wiggling, but she got her keys out of her purse and the door unlocked, then got them in right as the screaming fans ran past the door.
Grey looked at the man still clutching her hand, "Hi, I'm Grey; it's nice to meet you."
He looked at her with a wry smile, "I'm Jimin. It's nice to meet you, too." Her eyes went wide, and her mouth dropped open. He just laughed, "I was wondering when you would figure it out. But to be honest, it was refreshing."
She started pacing, "Holy shit Park Jimin is in my apartment." She said with excitement; then it hit her, "Holy shit Park Jimin is in my apartment," Grey started running around like a madwoman. He didn't need to see her undergarments that were thrown about. She heard him laughing when she turned to look at him, and he doubled over with giggles.
Grey huffed, "This isn't funny, do you?"
He kept laughing, "but honestly it is."
She grabbed the last of the underwear and walked over to her bed to toss them in the hamper. When she got there she stopped dead in her tracks, her bedspread was beautiful. She had no idea it was blue; she thought it was purple. Even in greyscale, colors look a little different. But her bedspread was several different shades of blue. Grey started tearing up; she loved it so much.
Jimin came to see what was taking her so long. "Are you crying? I didn't mean to laugh. It's okay, I swear."
She wiped her tears away with her arm and turned around to let him know that she was okay. She didn't know how to explain that she was bleached. Most people wanted nothing to do with them. They say that your soulmate will be drawn to you after you make contact, but she didn't know how accurate the information was.
"I'm fine, I swear. Are you hungry, thirsty?" She asked him. He nodded no, but his growling stomach begged to differ. "Go sit, I'll make you something." Grey went to the kitchen and made him some ramen. She dug around the fridge and grabbed the last of the kimchi. She set it on the table and filled a glass with water. He looked like he wanted it but was scared of it. "I didn't do anything to it. Is that what you are thinking? I can try it first if that helps."
That seemed to snap him out of his daze. He shook his head and then sat down to eat. He finished everything pretty fast. "Do you want more?" she asked with a soft smile. She knew he did, but he didn't want to ask. Grey got up, made him a sandwich, and grabbed a bag of chips. When she handed him the plate, he waited about five seconds before devouring it.
When he was done with everything, he sat back in his chair and rubbed his belly with a groan: "Thank you, Grey. Everything was delicious." She snorted. He's a billionaire, and he enjoyed a sandwich and some ramen. This guy was an enigma.
"Do you think they are gone yet?" she asked. The two of them got up and walked over to the window. They could still see a few of them running around.
He sighed, annoyed. "I'm sorry about them. Is there anyone we could call to come get you?"
