in which your favorite genderless singularity (c'est moi) decided to up the angstometer with a quote from their mildly crazy friend.

she had done exactly everything she always did in situations like these: dip her scalding words in poison and smooth her heart over with ice. the way had always worked for her after all.

"you kneel before my throne unaware it was born of lies." the way the words coated the queens tongue – one might wonder if she was a snake.

"my queen." the small girl's eyes flickered with trouble as the placed a burning kiss on the back of the queen's hand. the kind of trouble that started fires.

"our... gracious queen." the girl continued. "that is exactly why i kneel."

it was a simple sentence, edged with nothing for there was not enough space to fit anything but air, it seemed. but surely you know by now that there can be simplicity without a lack of meaning.

the queen faltered. what a thing to say. but her mouth was made of paper and it ripped itself into a sinister smile.

"go, child, before you write yourself a fate that cannot be undone." her head rested on her tilted hand, fingers lazily hanging down.

"i don't believe you understand what i said." the girl stood up, uncovering a dagger that had been held between the folds of her fingers and the tangles in her sleeves.

"that..." she placed a foot on the stoop that the queen's throne sat upon.

"is..." she raised the dagger, but the queen didn't flinch, for she did not believe that true death could ever become her. but, as the girl slashed through her chest, she knew she had been wrong. the blade easily slipped from her skin. as it did, there was no skin left, only a small black pebble placed in the direct middle of the seat.

"exactly why i've kneeled." she finished her sentence, smiling, and pocketed the stone in the satchel that loosely hung off her shoulder. it had appeared when the queen didn't and repeated this disappearing act as the stone met the bottom of the bag.

kind of a loose ending but that's all i've got
