"Please return to me soon."
Taehyun tugged his hand free, and without turning away he chuckled sadly, "Sure, that's what I'm paid for."
Hurt, Beomgyu stood up from the bed but Taehyun had already left the room in a jiffy. He gasped remembering the younger's words, feeling desperate and wretched.
He wanted to follow Taehyun and ask why he thought that way because he believed otherwise; that Taehyun was with him to guide him to a better life and be a better person.
Then why would he talk like that suddenly?
However, he stored that for later in the night and helped himself to his mother's room with a head full of heavy thoughts.
"Yes, come in." Mrs. Choi voiced when he knocked, so he pushed the door and got inside.
"Oh Beomgyu?" She looked at her husband beside her, who seemed to be reading her a book, and as he got the message, he excused himself after Beomgyu bowed to him.
"Come here, son." She patted the seat beside her, Beomgyu complied.
"Eomma, how have you been?"
"I'm good. You? I guess you've been eating well by the way you've pumped up."
Beomgyu giggled, causing his mother to do the same as the mood lightened. "Taehyun-ah cooks for me a lot of food everyday."
"Is that so? He sounds so sweet." She reached for his raven strands, coursing her fingers through them. "Your hairs are getting longer. Why didn't you trim them yet?"
"Taehyun likes to play with them. He wouldn't stop once he—" Beomgyu paused when he realized he was talking too much about Taehyun. He looked at his mother who had a mischievous smile on.
"Seeing both of my sons madly in love is now making me feel old." His mother sighed deeply. "It's great though. We all need people to care about."
"Like you do for Mr. Kim."
"Hm?"
"Mr. Kim and you care for each other, that's why you two are also madly in love, isn't it?"
Beomgyu's mother straightened up cautiously, she cleared her throat but Beomgyu eventually continued,
"I have realized that it was me who was the selfish one. After appa's demise, you've worked harder than ever to make ends meet because I was too prideful to accept a life without luxuries. Years went by and you found love again but instead of being happy for you, I despised you like a fool. I never thought how lonely you might've felt. Eomma, I'm sorry for being a bad son."
She quickly hugged her son, who was about to tear up. "It's okay, baby. I know everything was too harsh on you but you still let me do what I want. Doesn't that make you a mature boy?"
"But—"
"Shh." Rubbing his head, she planted a kiss on top. "You don't have to apologize for anything. Just do me a favor."
Beomgyu pulled away to look at her while she just gave a motherly smile.
"I'm not telling you to give him your appa's place, but can you warm up to Mr. Kim?"
Beomgyu turned around to find the mentioned man bringing two cups of coffee in a tray and entering the balcony area to put it down nicely before them. He gave a pat to the raven's head, and then returned.
"If he loves you, he must be a nice person."
And then it was all comfortable silence. The mother-son duo just sat there basking in each other's presence and catching up on all the fun conversations they missed while Beomgyu made a mental note to thank his hyung later because if not for his wedding, he might never find the chance to make it right.

"Hyunnie~ Tell me, na? What happened after you two kissed and went home that night?"
Taehyun threw a pillow at the younger, glaring. "Is that all you want to know at this moment?"
"Boya~" Hueningkai whined while rubbing his arm. "Stop getting so feisty and spill, I won't tease you!!—OWW NO!"
The scarlet-haired this time pulled his cheeks, so Hueningkai had to give up.
"First you spill, how did you end up here with Soobin hyung and Yeonjun hyung?"
Hueningkai rolled his eyes, then made himself comfortable on the bed with his plushies. "Nothing much, honestly. Soobin hyung said one of his cousins was getting married to a drop dead gorgeous celebrity but he didn't tell me the name, so I insisted on coming along. You know how he is right? He can never say 'no' to me. I only realized later when we were about to leave that Yeonjun hyung was also joining us."
"Why didn't you tell me!?"
"Did you?" Hueningkai raised an eyebrow, causing Taehyun to look away guiltily. He knew Beomgyu and Taehyun needed some time alone, especially when things were starting to bloom. Of course, Yeonjun's presence would only ruin it. He cleared his throat before asking, "What about you? How come you're here?"
"Kim Taehyung is Beomgyu hyung's brother."
"WHAT!???" Hueningkai almost smashed Hwahwa.
"Step-brother, I mean."
"Doesn't matter, geez!! Had I known he's related to such an amazing celebrity, I would've given away all of my cheese sandwiches to him already."
Taehyun rolled his eyes at that, "Stop overreacting. Besides, I came to know about it after arriving here."
The younger pondered for a while, his usual playful face turning serious. "Do you know how many real estates they own? Practically, every high-end shopping mall and resort in Daegu are theirs. Albeit a less in Seoul, they own a bunch of hotels. I've heard they're also the shareholders of our university—"
"Are you also trying to say that I don't measure up to his standard?" Taehyun chuckled, staring into oblivion.
Hueningkai bit his lips before scooting closer to his best friend. "Look Hyunnie, I didn't know he was this rich. Right now, I feel like he isn't someone to change his preference that quick. That's why I'm asking you, how's the progress? Because if he still doesn't feel anything for you, I'm sorry to say, it'd be the best for you to give up now."
Taehyun heaved a sigh, his chest aching. How's the progress? He recalled the conversation he heard from Beomgyu's bathroom.
And truly enough, he could never match Beomgyu's standards, as the older had told him earlier.
"He once told me to leave but I stayed because I wanted him to get over the pain he was feeling. Now I can't just suddenly disappear." Taehyun laid on the bed with his back. "What does he think of me, you ask?" He raised his left hand to look at the ring he'd bought which matched Beomgyu's.
Caressing the carved half-heart with his right thumb, he realized that Beomgyu had his heart but was it even possible for him to have the other's heart as well?
Taehyun thought about the times Beomgyu willfully kissed him; first, because he was too drunk to think rationally and second, because they were too into the mood.
Shutting his eyes, he replayed the memories on the back of his mind.
"Maybe I'm just a substitute to his momentary feelings which are here today but will be gone by tomorrow."
He'd fallen way deeper to back out now. To an extent where he didn't really mind what Beomgyu thought of him but it was starting to hurt thinking all of this will one day be taken away from him.
"I'll tell him all the truth on our last day together."
Hueningkai frowned. If Taehyun ended up with a broken heart, it'd be his fault, he knew. But if Taehyun wanted to stay until their agreement ended, then he had to let him, although he was starting to get skeptical about this. Because they were always like this, as best friends they'd give each other the best advices but they'd always leave the last call for the one who had to make the decision.
More or less a week was left. The worst could happen was Beomgyu still being the dipshit he is and rejecting Taehyun once again.
But there was no chance of him finding out what history he shared with Taehyun.
Or, was there?
