“Is this even the right place?” Beomgyu mumbled, scanning his surroundings properly.

It took him more than an hour to find out the exact neighbourhood, with questioning a lot of the residents and almost getting in the hands of cutpurses. But at last he found out the address; it was actually a cheap rooftop room.

“Is someone in??” Beomgyu knocked on the junked door in vain, sighing after a few seconds.

“Taehyun, are you there?” He tried again but only to receive no response.

“Beomgyu hyung…”

Beomgyu whipped his head towards the voice that was pinned inside his mind 24/7. He gasped at the sight;

There stood Kang Taehyun, with his natural brown hair in all its glory, a thin sweater wrapping his body, shoes the most worn-out he's ever seen, legs covered with red bruises, frame leaner and face a bit smaller from before, now a small cut sitting on top of his left cheek.

“Taehyun!” Beomgyu walked to the younger with a concerned face, causing him to back away slightly, his eyes falling to the ground.

“You…here…how…don't tell me Hyuka told you—”

“How did you hurt your cheek?” Beomgyu took two more steps closer, his hand raising to touch the slit but Taehyun was quick to cover it up with his own hand.

“It's umm, nothing…”

Beomgyu's eyes then fell on his own finger where he had the ring on. The scene of punching Taehyun that day played on his mind repeatedly.

It was him. He had caused the harsh cut on Taehyun's flawless skin.

He retreated his hand, guilt eating him up. He was here to ask forgiveness, to tell the younger that he was on the wrong side but seeing the damage he'd caused, he wasn't sure if it was even reparable.

It was not about the scar on Taehyun's face only but he'd probably scarred his soul as well.

“Oh Taehyun-ssi, are you back?” Beomgyu's chain of thoughts came to a stop when a middle-aged man climbed up the rooftop to greet Taehyun, the younger bowing to him.

“There's a notice for you, Taehyun-ssi.” The man scratched the back of his head, starting unsurely, “For the past six months you've been falling behind to pay the rent. I understand that you barely sleep and have been constantly working to meet ends but I have a family to feed too.”

“What do you mean, ahjussi?” Taehyun knew the implication of those words very well, he just needed that surety.

The man pushed his glasses up, smiling apologetically, “You'll have to leave this place if you can't clear all the dues within a week.”

“A week? But that's...such a short time…”

“Two weeks at most. There's nothing else I can do for you. I'm sorry.”

While Taehyun was already thinking how many more jobs he'd have to take to be able to fulfill the conditions, Beomgyu had taken out the envelope and handed it over to the owner, startling both of them.

“Count it properly and tell me if you need more.”

The man checked the bundle with wide eyes, obviously he had never seen so much money at once. “...I think this is more than his original due…”

“Good. Now please renovate this place with the extra money asap.” He pulled Taehyun with him down the stairs, not giving a chance to the owner to complain.

“Hyung, wait…” Taehyun called as the older kept walking with his wrist gripped. “Beomgyu hyung…why would you do that…!”

The older turned around, almost clashing with the younger that seemingly flustered both. Taehyun quickly looked away.
