August

"Man, I gotta find some other place to live. This shit is really crazy." I was packing things into my car.

"Excuse me, Excuse me." This female approached me.

"Yeah?"

"I couldn't help but overhear that you said you needed a place to stay."

"What, you gone provide that for me?" I retorted.

"If you would let me. I'm Carter."

"August. How you hear me?"

"I was walking down the street."

"And you're offering your house? To a complete stranger?"

"From the looks of it, you need somewhere to stay, ion think you wanna sleep in ya car. But if you do, I'll just walk away." She started walking away.

"Wait, Carter. Let me drive you back home. Please. Let me stay."

"Ok." She helped me with my bags, literally trash bags, and we drove to her house which wasn't that far from my mom's house.

"This yo house?" I asked.

"Yeah, come in." She smiled.

This girl was beautiful, beyond gorgeous, almost flawless, but everyone has flaws. Was me meeting her fate? Or was it just her good deed?

"Grandma I'm home."

"Oh good sweetie. Who's this?" An elderly lady asked.

"Grandma this is August, August my grandma."

"Chile, he cute, you better snatch him up before I do." She winked at me.

I laughed nervously. "Thanks."

"Grandma, is it ok if he stays with us for a while?"

"Sure. You don't have no other place to go son?" She questioned.

"No ma'am." I answered.

"Well, you're always welcomed here, take your things up to Carter's room and relax."

I did exactly as she told me.

"This ya room?" I asked.

"Why you always asking obvious questions? It sure as hell isn't my grandmother's." Carter stated.

"You know what? You got a smart mouth when needed. I like that."

"What? You actually like that? Used to get popped in my mouth all the time for using my 'smart mouth when needed' but it's cool though."

"Nah, it show you don't let everybody walk all over you. But thank you for letting me stay here Cata." I smiled.

"You welcome. It was just something that needed to be done, trust me, I wouldn't do it for everybody."

"Why'd you do it for me?"

"You looked like you'd make a good friend."

"Sure it's cause I don't look good?" I stroked my chin like I had a beard.

"Nah, I'm not really into lightskin men." She smirked.

"But you lightskin?"

"Maybe." She sat on her bed. "Tell me bout yaself Aug."
