That night we went to bed and Bucky again was reluctant to sleep in the same bedroom as me. "Doll, are you sure about this?" He asked, "I can spend my nights in the cell I don't mind, the bed in there isn't so bad."
"Don't be ridiculous my love. You're sleeping in here with me, end of discussion." I removed my neck brace to be more comfortable while I slept and grabbed a small pillow for my neck. We got in bed and Bucky still kept some distance keeping himself on the opposite side of the bed from me.
I awoke at around five in the morning to see Bucky stirring slightly. I shook his shoulder. "Bucky dear, wake up." This time I wasn't as gentle hoping he would just wake up fully straight away. He quickly shot up and I backed up slightly to give myself room to react if needed, he was breathing very heavily. "You okay Buck?" I asked softly.
He looked over at me and sighed. "Yeah, I'm fine, doll." He pulled me in for a hug. "Everything's okay."
"Do you want to go back to bed or go train?" I asked him. I figured since he went for training to calm down last time maybe it would help this time as well.
"Training would be nice." We both got up and changed for the day, I saw Bucky sigh as I put my neck brace back on. It's early morning anyways we're not going back to bed any time soon.
Both of us decided to do some target practice with our knives since that's what we were both good at and it's an easy way to clear our minds.
"So your dad is pretty intense. Was that because of me or is he always that way?" Bucky asked as we continued throwing the knives.
"He's always like that." I explained.
"Must've been tough as a kid then."
"Yeah well, when I first wanted to visit here I was only a child. Father told me I had to train to defend myself first so I spent centuries training until he finally let me." I explained further "One thing I'll never understand though is why after years and years of training did he not trust me alone, only with my brothers? I mean I won most spars against them anyways so I might as well have been protecting them."
"So uh, you kinda know already what happened with me after you left but what all happened with you? Did you ever find anyone else?" He questioned.
"Nope." I bluntly let out. "After I was forbidden from Midgard I continued training day after day to distract myself from losing you. I tried asking Heimdall about you but father wouldn't allow him to speak to me about you at all."
"What did you ask him about?" Bucky stopped throwing his knives and looked at me as I continued throwing them.
"Well, the first day that I was gone I asked if you were at the antique store, waiting for me." I began. "That was the only time Heimdall answered me, he told me you were already there for some time waiting for me and told me when you had left. A few years later I asked if you were well and alive after the war. He hinted that it wasn't good but never truly answered. I suppose I know the answer to that now but at the time I had assumed you were dead."
I finished with my last knife and looked up at him. "But enough talk of my overbearing father. Let's go eat breakfast." We head up to the kitchen and see Steve drinking his coffee.
"Well aren't you two up early." Steve joked.
"We just finished with some early morning training," Bucky told him. "It helps me keep my mind occupied."
"Whatever helps man." Steve smiled and hugged Bucky.
