In front of us was the road with two sides, and I saw the grass and the sand, and the wonderful prize boxes. This was one of my favorite games of all time, and it was multiplayer, so I got to be in it with my sister.
Mario Kart.
"You ready for this, Kairi?" Serah called from her kart. I turned my head and gave her a thumbs up.
"You ready to get beat?" I called back, but she shook her head and her gaze locked on the road.
"We'll see who laughs last!" She laughed as the flying turtle with the flag raised it in front of us, and I heard the countdown begin.
"Yeah, but I've always been better at Luigi circuit!" I stated and kept my eyes on the road, ready to race for real.
Three. Two. One.
And I was gone, flying down the track. Serah was almost next to me, but her driving was spastic, swerving left and right while I kept more straight. I ran into a prize box, finding a banana as I held it behind me so no one could hit me with a shell. I made the straightaway, turning into the angled speed boosts that lined the last turn. But this was only lap one.
I run into another prize box and I hear the blue shell warning. I braced for the worst, because blue shell aims for… first place.
I was blown up into the air as other people past me, but I landed, shook it off and kept going. Somewhere along the way I saw Serah pass me, but I launched a shell at her and that quickly solved that problem. Now I had to catch back up to first…
We were all on the last lap, I was in second as Serah was on first, yelling and screaming things at me because she thought she was gonna win. I knew better then to doubt Mario Kart, because what goes around comes around. And then I saw the blue shell fly over me and soar for the person in first.
"Ha!" I laughed as I past Serah who got blown up and past the finish line. She finished a while later, getting fourth, and I knew she was ticked.
"Not fair! I got hit by a blue shell!" She cried as I kept laughing, celebrating my first place.
"Okay, then let's do some other courses, see who the best is." I offered, and she nodded determiningly.
"You're on!" She stated and we went to the next course that was probably on random. I only hoped for a course you couldn't fall off of, because those all sucked and you would get put in something close to last place. So as the screen faded to black and reappeared, I searched for my sister in the line, regretting coming here. We got stuck on the worst track of all possible in Mario Kart.
"Serah!" I called, but she was behind me. "We can't do this track!"
"Why? Cause you know I'm gonna beat you!" She laughed, facing the road. We were stuck on Rainbow Road, the course that you can fall off every five seconds cause there was close to no rails. Falling off was inevitable.
"Fine, this race, then we're out." I told her and she nodded, and the countdown began. But I was still very uneasy about this track.
Three. Two. One.
I started, swerving slightly before getting launched down the rainbow road that was angled at one hundred fifty degrees and had speed boosts. Then we were launched into the air, landing on the other track. We got launched on this track so much that somebody had to fall off. I slowed down as Serah sped ahead of me, but she could win as long as I didn't fall off.
"Two slow, Kairi!" She called, but she bounced into one of the few rails on the track and got launched into the space, falling and falling… until she was gone.
"That's what you get, Serah!" I called as I saw her behind me, getting placed back on the track and I was launched through the rainbow shooting star. This track was long though, and I still had two laps to go. But I made the last two turns of the first lap, and surprisingly never fell off. Let's hope it lasted…
I made the last turn on the third lap, and even though I've been hit by two blue shells I was first place, with Serah in eighth or something cause she kept falling off. I had to wait a while before she finally finished, and her tantrum just made me laugh even more.
"Come on! One more, please? I have to beat you!" She whined, but I shook my head.
"We'll come back when you're more experienced, or when Nathan leaves again. But we gotta see if he came back." I told her.
"But why can't he know?" She asked, really starting to get on my nerves. "I don't understand, Kairi."
"He will know, just not now." I shot at her and she sighed dramatically like the drama queen she was.
"Fine." She muttered and I drove my car adjacent to hers and hit the eject button, and we both flew out of Mario Kart.
