I think I was back in the real world. I didn’t want to open my eyes to find out. I still couldn’t believe Mom and Dad would make something like this. Sure, I bet they tried, but I didn’t think they’d succeed. The system was amazing! I didn’t know how long I was in there, but damn, that was fun. I raised my arm out in front of me, trying to get my Keyblade back. Damn it.
“I wonder how long I was in there…” I said out loud as I ran to go find a clock. The sun was out, so it was day, but I didn’t see Nathan or Serah. I looked around some but couldn’t find them.
I searched my room, remembering there was one on my nightstand. It read ten fifteen.
“Really? I was gone for ten minutes?” I asked out loud like it would answer back, but I knew it wouldn’t. And evil smile slipped onto my face. “I have time for one more game then, right?” I didn’t know what time Nathan left, but I didn’t want to risk it. I picked up my cell and called him.
“Hello?” I heard Nathan ask from the other end.
“Hey. Quick question, what time do ya think you’ll be home?”
There was a pause for a second, but eventually he answered. “I don't know… why? Do you have a guy friend coming over?” He started laughing, and I felt my face flare up.
“Not funny. But seriously, when?”
“But seriously, why?” He shot back. Okay, little lie, little lie…
“No reason. I was just wondering how… long ago… you left.” I stammered, and I knew he was getting suspicious.
“I don’t know, maybe like an hour or so?” He replied.
An hour!? Great. He’s usually at the store for two.
“Okay. Thanks, I’ll see you when you get home.” I told him before hanging up. A whole hour…
I did wonder if I was going to tell them about The System. They were my siblings, we just got reunited after four miserable years, but what if they sold it off to some company, to make millions more? No. I wouldn’t let that happen. Not as long as my parents were dead. But still… it did seem like the right thing to do.
I called Serah really fast to see when she was gonna get home.
“What, Kairi?” She asked as she picked up the phone, obviously knowing it was me.
“Hey, what time did you say you were gonna be back from Jackie’s?” I asked, but I felt her suspicion as well.
“I don’t know, Nathan said he’d pick me up after lunch.” She told me, and my smile grew wider.
“Okay. I’ll see you later, then.” I didn’t wait for her response before hanging up.
I ran back downstairs to the office, strapping on one of the controllers. It turned on automatically (how does it do that!?) and I pressed one player, shuffle games, ultra-reality. The horizontal line scanned me, turning me into particles, and I zoomed off into the game.
~~~~~~~~~~
I blinked my eyes open to see darkness. A dark area. I didn’t know which game this was, but already it was starting to freak me out.
“In a world beyond the realms,” A voice started, and then fire started appearing from the left, making me take a few steps backwards, but stumbled over something. “I, like the others, awaited the birth of a dragon of whom the prophecies foretold.”
I realized that now there was a gold circle with a teal inside, torches lighting the other parts of the stone room. I stood against a wall in the round room as I saw a dragon appear from the far side, one that had red scales and everything. I kept my mouth shut, I was to scared to speak.
