Favorite crime (Loki x reader)

It has been a while since there was this much noise in the tower. Most of the avengers have arrived to monitor the mission and make sure everything goes as planned. You look over at Loki, you both seem to miss the quiet.

You were happy to see them though. Steve has been awfully distance towards you. You don't really care but it just feels weird. You're about to gear up when he walks over to you.

"I know we haven't been on the same page lately, but good luck and be careful. I honestly mean that Y/n." He goes in for a hug. As he holds you, you feel like you're in the arms of a stranger.

When you look through the room all you seem to notice are strangers. Except for one, Loki. He is making weird faces to mock Steve as you're still in his arms. You chuckle.

"Something wrong?" Steve asks.

"No, nothing" you let go of him and give him your best fake smile.

Steve just left and Nat is already standing in front of you. "Be careful, honey" she says and also gives you a hug. As you're in her arms you squeeze a little tighter, although you felt a bit dissociated from the rest, Nat always feels like family, same goes for Tony, who hasn't let you out of his sight since he arrived. You almost start to think he's concerned about the mission. You give him a comforting smile and mouth 'I'll be fine'. He smiles back but he still has a worried look on his face.

You and Loki walk up to each other and decide that it's time to leave. When you reach the front door, you both stand still for a second.

"Ready for our last crime, darling?" he says with a grin.

You smile, but all your senses are off, something doesn't feel right. However, it's too late to go back now, you have to do this. You think about the weird atmosphere back upstairs.

You're all tight up and Loki has morphed into the enemy. Time to infiltrate. You two entered with no trouble. After a few encounters you've reached the right room successfully. Loki is standing guard and you're collecting all the information. Everything is going as planned. You pull out the stick which now has all the information on it. When you open the door Loki is looking at you, his eyes seem to say he's sorry.

"What?" you ask shocked.

"I'm sorry, darling" he says as he morphs back into himself. "I can't live a life locked up, that is not how it works for me."

"Loki what are you doing?"

You know what is about to happen next, this is your moment to stop him. But you can't. He pushes something in your hand and says "Go to the exit now, as fast as you can." You look at the thing that Loki gave to you, one of the explosive knives. "GO" he yells.

You start running as you see him slip into another hallway. You see people getting behind you, they've seen you and are running after you. More people are coming. You run as fast as you can. They start to get closer. You see another group of people coming towards you. Luckily, the exit is within sight. You speed up one more time and throw the knife in a wall. You open the doors as a big explotion happens behind you. You fly through the air as the people behind you burn. You hit the ground and a loud ringing appears in your head. You turn around lying on your back. Loki is still in the part of the building that is intact. Why did he go that way? He seemed to have it all planned out. A big shock goes through your body as a second explosion happens. But this one is bigger, much bigger. "LOKI" you scream out. The whole building is on fire and pieces of metal and brick are flying through the air. All of a sudden a shield covers you from all the pieces. Steve is covering you. After a few second you push him away and try to get up. You run towards to building as you fall down on your knees. You cry out his name one more time.

Steve stands behind you "There is no way he survived that Y/n." You shake your head while tears are rolling down your face. "You could have stopped this" says Steve as he looks you in the eyes. You can see the disappointment. "You let him go. We all saw it. You knew what he was after didn't you? How could you let him go knowing what he was about to take?"

"What?" you ask full of surprise. "He- he just wanted his freedom back..."

"Y/n, do you really think that I believe you? I know you were helping him, it is all on camera. He's still alive isn't he? This is all part of the plan."

"SHUT UP STEVE" you scream trying to look him in the eyes through your tears. "He's fucking dead, you said it yourself. There is no way he survived that."

Steve keeps staring at you.

"But you fucking knew, you asshole. You knew that there was something in the building that he wanted. That was the part of the mission I didn't know about, wasn't it?" You can't stand the stupid look on his face anymore. He has made his mind up about you. So if Loki is alive, you're going to give him one last favor, a chance of freedom.

"Alright" you sigh. "I knew, I knew all along. He promised me he would come and get me, once he had confiscated it." you let your voice break "but it didn't go as planned. The second explosion wasn't supposed to happen. He should've escaped right after the first one." A lie has never come this easily out of your mouth.

"I don't want to do this but..." Steve handcuffs you. You scoff. You look over at the building one more time, in the hope to see a glimpse of Loki or a sign that he made it out alive. You should feel stabbed in the back, but all you can feel is the sharp pain in your chest caused by thought of his death.

All you can see is the look on his face when he betrayed you. He didn't want to hurt you. But the avengers betrayed you too, they risked it all by not telling you what Loki possible was up to. Why wouldn't they tell you? Nothing makes sense, nothing.
