"See ya tonight at the bonfire, Greenie." What bonfire? Before I could ask Newt about it, he left with Zart.
Eventually, it started to get dark. Someone who I didn't recognise walked towards me and got me out of the Pit.
"Hey. I'm Clint. I work in the med shack. Newt told me to come and get you. It's time for your bonfire," the boy explained.
"Why are we having a bonfire?" I asked.
"It's what we always do when a new Greenie comes up."
He took me to the centre of the Glade. I was met with a roaring bonfire and boys laughing and drinking something that looked suspiciously like piss. Newt spotted me and ran over.
"Hey, Greenie! Like it?"
"I've been here for one minute, Newt. But yes I do. When will the next one be?"
Newt laughed. "We've not even had this one yet and you're asking about the next one?" He shook his head with a fond smile on his face. "But in answer to your question, when the next Greenie comes up. So in a month."
Minho walked up to us and handed me the piss drink.
"I'm not drinking that," I said with disgust, pushing the glass that Minho was offering me away.
"Come on! It's Gally's secret recipe."
"Well I'm definitely not drinking it then. It's probably poisoned. He hates me! And even if Gally didn't make it, it still looks way too similar to piss."
"What?" Minho and Newt said in unison.
"Do you think Gally really needed the toilet at a bonfire so he just pissed in a jar, then someone drank it and asked Gally what it is, but Gally has to pretend it isn't his piss, so he just says it's a special drink?" Minho and Newt bursted into fits of laughter.
"Trust me. It's not piss. And Gally may hate you but he wouldn't try and kill you," Minho reassured me.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he did." Giving in with a sigh, I took the drink and had a sip. And then another. Minho and Newt look at me shocked.
"What?" I asked.
"Do you like how it tastes?!"
"Yeah. It's not bad for somebody's piss" I said, trying to hold in a laugh, taking yet another sip.
"No one has ever liked it!"
"It's not half bad," I shrugged.
"HEY, GALLY!" Minho yelled. "THE GREENIE LIKES YOUR DRINK!" This made Gally smirk.
About ten minutes later, I heard chanting and walked over to where it came from. The boys had formed a circle around Gally, who I saw was fighting someone. The poor boy was flung out of the circle and Gally cheered.
"What's happening?" I asked Newt.
"Fight circle. You try to push your opponent out of the circle before they do the same to you. Gally loves it. He always wins, though," Newt explained.
"I thought you couldn't harm other Gladers?"
"Nah this is different, Greenie-"
"Oi!" Gally walked up to me and cut off Newt. "Wanna see what you're made of, shank?"
I gave him a confused look.
"You and me. Fight." Gally dragged me into the middle of the circle and the boys cheered and hollered.
"Woah, Gally. The Greenie didn't agree to it," Newt tried to interject.
"Oh you don't want to get hurt, shank? Don't want to get muddy? Are you scared, princess?" I rolled my eyes at Gally's antics and his attempts at winding me up.
"I never said I wouldn't," I shrugged. "Oh, and don't call me princess"
"Would you rather be called a baby?"
I punched Gally, causing him to fall to the floor and hit his head.
"I'm guessing she does want to fight after all," Minho chuckled.
"Rules are simple, Greenie-"
"I already know the rules. Newt told me."
"Ok. Let's get straight to business. Try not to break a nail. This is gonna be an easy fight." Oh, how I wanted to wipe that stupid, smug smile off his stupid, smug face.
He got ready to attack me. I didn't know how, but something clicked in me. I knew exactly what I had to do to win this fight.
Gally ran toward me, but, expecting this, I tackled him to the floor and threw myself on top of him, our faces only an inch or two apart.
"Rule one of fighting, darling," I whispered, smirking. "Let your opponent attack first so they think they have the upper hand."
He flipped us over so now he was on top, our faces still practically touching. "Rule two of fighting, princess. Don't get distracted while you have a better position." He returned my smirk.
"Rule three. Be careful where you position yourself. Boop." I said while booping him on the nose. I let out a slight laugh before kneeing him in the crotch. He rolled off of me in pain and I used this to my advantage and pushed him out of the circle.
"WOOOO!" the boys cheered. Minho lifted me onto his shoulders and Gally got up, grumbling.
"I guess you won," he muttered.
"What was that?" I asked, thoroughly enjoying this.
"You know damn well what I said."
"Maybe. But I wanna hear it again just to be sure. Say it again. Loud and clear!" I gave him a sickly sweet smile.
"I said I guess you won." Gally spoke loud enough for everyone to hear.
"He admitted it!" a boy yelled.
"This is dumb," Gally huffed, storming off.
"Is he always this much of a mood hoover?" I said as Minho put me down.
We carried on partying for a while and I got introduced to anyone I hadn't met already until Alby told us to go to bed. I walked up to Alby.
"I don't have anywhere to sleep," I told him.
"I thought of that. Tonight you'll have to sleep with the boys but tomorrow I'll get the Builders to build you your own hut. I'm not saying the boys would do anything, but it's better to be safe than sorry right?"
I smiled. "Thanks, Alby."
"You're welcome, Greenie. Oh, and rest up. You're gonna need all the energy you can get tomorrow. We're gonna find you a job!"
I followed the boys to where they slept and one of them pointed me to a spare hammock. I didn't have anything to get changed into so I had no choice but to sleep in the clothes I was already in.
I was about to fall asleep, when I heard a grunt. I opened my eyes and saw Gally.
"Oh great. I'm sleeping next to you." he scowled.
"It's only for tonight. Alby said the Builders will build me my own place tomorrow."
"Great. I'm the Keeper of the Builders so I'll be the one who has to make it. I hope I accidentally misjudge something so the roof collapses in on you while you're sleeping."
"Charming," I scoffed.
"I hope I snore tonight too." Gally got into his hammock. He was unbearable. Why did he hate me so much anyway?
