The gentle sound of a clock ticking stirred Friday awake, her eyes cracked open and instantly the ache in her head clouded her senses. She groaned, rubbing her eyes. As she hid her face between the pillows, the comforting scent of Silas and fresh linen filled her nose.
"You okay, angel?"
Friday looked up, casting her eyes to the right at the sound of Silas' deep voice, it always left behind a trail of comfort that caused tingles to erupt in her stomach. He stood by the entrance, carefully rolling up his sleeves to his elbows as he spoke. The brown curls on his head fell messily into his face, which he eventually pushed back with his hand, the curls slipping between his fingers before taking a step inside the room.
Friday nodded. "I'm okay," she said.
As Silas stepped closer he noticed the redness of her eyes and the way they drooped with tiredness. "Are you going to school today? I have an appointment in an hour but I can drop you off."
"Yeah, if you don't mind." Friday shuffled into a sitting position, her hand rubbing over her eyes as the pounding in her head grew stronger.
Silas furrowed his brows sadly at her pained expression. "Maybe you should stay off school today." Friday quickly pulled her hand away from her face and shook her head.
"I'm fine, I promise." She smiled sweetly, pushing the covers to the side and swinging her legs over the edge. "Will you give me five minutes to get dressed?"
Silas nodded hesitantly before making his way out of the room. The idea of keeping her away from everything that could hurt her weighed heavy on his mind. After she told him about the people at her school, it was yet another place he wanted to keep her safe from, though he knew he couldn't keep her locked away from the world. She needed to learn how to deal with those situations. That was his job as a therapist, wasn't it? To teach people how to deal with their problems.
Silas spent a few minutes bidding goodbye to a sleeping Reena, who replied with a grumble as she shoved her light pink pillow over her head. He pulled on his coat as Friday drearily clambered down the stairs.
"You ready?" He asked. Friday nodded tiredly in response. "Got everything?"
"I'm not a child Silas," Friday mumbled, shrugging into one of Silas' large coats.
Silas furrowed his brows, a firm line pulling his lips. "Watch it, Friday, I'm just making sure you don't forget anything." He said handing her a small paper bag which she opened slowly before peeking inside.
"If you're not gonna eat lunch then you must eat in the car." With that, he opened the door and stepped outside into the cold, rainy weather. Friday smiled softly to herself before quickly following after him and jumping into the car.
"It's bloody freezing out there," Silas said after Friday settled in the car next to him, hands rubbing up and down his thighs to keep himself warm. After a moment he started up the engine and began reversing out of the driveway.
Friday chuckled, pulling the sandwich out of the paper bag. "Bloody freezing." She mimicked, her voice lined with a fake British accent before taking a bite out of the sandwich.
"Are you mocking me, Friday?" Silas said, voice firm and cold. Friday froze, worried she had insulted him, but when she turned to him he reached towards her, poking at her side with his index finger.
Friday squealed in surprise, a giggle passing through her lips. "No, it's just funny." She squirmed.
"Well, you know what's really funny?" Silas said, a smile slowly creeping onto his lips. "Your poor attempt at a British accent. That's what's funny."
