Ellie's POV
Mark crashed into Lee before any of us could ask any more questions, taking Lee's weight off of my body. My head throbbed from the violent blows, bringing a swirling fuzziness over my mind. I wrestled with consciousness for some time before I managed to throw myself onto my side. There you go. Keep going. Keep moving.
I pushed myself from the floor so that I was balanced on all fours, wobbling slightly from a sudden wave of nauseousness. I turned to view Mark and Lee tangled just eight feet or so from me, throwing fists and curses at each other. Everything felt so slow, so distant. Their voices reached me through a thick veil of water. Though I was tempted to lie down and rest, I knew I needed to get help. I forced my arms and legs to move, one after another, until I reached a small desk in the living room. I pulled myself from the ground until I leaned heavily on its smooth wooden top, barely standing on two feet. A loud smashing sound came from the kitchen, fueling my mad dash to the door. Knocking things from tables and shelves, I hugged the wall until I came crashing through the doorway into the hall. As I stumbled down the hall, my vision fading in and out, several men in uniform flooded the floor from the stairway. I fell forward, clutching to the vest of a young officer that caught me before hitting the ground. His voice couldn't find me in my fading state, but I focused every last ounce of strength on choking out some coherent words.
"Ple- ase.. Help M-Mark.." Uniforms rushed past us, and a chorus of voices were shouting orders and incoherent messages. My eyelids finally won the battle for consciousness, and I felt myself slip away into a cold, black sleep.
