Chapter 15: Banishment

"She tried to kill- what- no! Where's your proof?"

"Go into the Medshack. You can see the bloody proof for yourself"

I storm off in the direction of the Medshack, and see Sean laying there, looking half dead because of all his cuts, bruises, and injuries.

"What the shuck happened?" I mutter to myself, knowing Olivia couldn't have done this. I refuse to believe it.

"Olivia happened" Sean winces in pain. Good. I hope he's really suffering right now. I hope he feels like he's going through hell with all the pain that I pray is unbearable.

"I don't feel safe with her around" Sean says.

"Listen here, shank" I grab him by his shirt and pull him up so our faces are only inches apart. "You may have been able to make the rest of the Gladers believe you, but it's a whole different topic with me. I know Olivia didn't do this to you. She never would. So, I suggest you start telling the truth, before the rules simply just... slip from my mind" I smirk while saying the last bit and Sean gulps. I roughly drop him back down on the bed, then go back to Liv, making sure nobody follows me.

"So. What did you find out?" she asks, as I pull her into a hug.

I sigh. "Not much more you don't know. The Greenie's name is Sean, not that you would care, and he is practically dead from lots of cuts and injuries. He's got the whole Glade convinced you did it to him"

"Well this is looking great for me" she says sarcastically.

"Liv, please can we just try and find evidence to prove you're innocent? I don't want to sit back on my ass when I can be doing something to help" I stroke her hair.

"The only evidence we can get is if Sean confesses, but why the shuck would he do that? Just face it. I'm gonna get Banished" I can't bear to see her so defeated.

"We just need to find out what time he got attacked and find out where you were at that time to prove you couldn't have done it!" I smile, knowing I could save her.

"Gally, it must have happened between end of dinner yesterday and early this morning.  The problem is, last night I was completely by myself for all of that. There's no way we can prove I'm innocent" I celebrated too soon.

We spend the rest of the day together, talking about nothing in particular; we just wanted to distract ourselves from what would be happening soon.

"No!" Liv looks up and starts crying.

"What's wrong?" I gently place my hand on her cheek.

"Sun-sundown" she says miserably.

"What?! No! It can't be- it can't be sundown already! Liv, I'm going to sort this out. I swear. I'm gonna go to Newt and Alby and-"

I'm cut off by her gently kissing my lips.

"Please don't make empty promises. I know you're trying to help, but it's making everything worse" she begs.

"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you" I say, pressing our foreheads together.

"It's ok. At least everything will go back to normal again. How it was before I arrived. You'll like that. I know you will"

"I'd much rather you be here" I choke back tears. I don't want her last memory of me to be me being weak.

"I need to go. Even if I manage to stay hidden for tonight, they'll find me and Banish me tomorrow. Hiding would just delay the inevitable" I can't fight the tears anymore. She gently wiped them away with her hand and gives me a small smile.

Our lips meet in one, last, tear-stained kiss.

"I'm going to kill Sean" I say darkly. "I mean it. I will"

"Gally..." she can't finish her sentence because Newt appears.

"So this is where you've been hiding for the day. Come on, shank" he says, climbing up and pulling Liv away from me.

"Newt! Just reconsider this! Please! You don't even have any actual proof!" I follow him.

"Have you forgotten what Sean looks like?!" Newt asks me sternly.

"Of course not! But did anyone actually see Olivia attack Sean?"

"Well... no" Newt mutters.

"Exactly. Anything could have happened to him. Anything at all. But he says it was Olivia's fault, and you believe him just because he appeared with a few injuries?" I look at Newt and see he's thinking about what I said.

"It's out of my hands now. I'm sorry" he says eventually, taking Olivia away from me.

"Newt!" I call after him, then catch up to him. "It's not out of your hands!"

"Yes it is. I'm sorry it's had to end this way"

"You're not sorry" I remark with a scoff. "If you were truly sorry, then you'd be fighting to keep her here! But you're not! Even though you know I'm right!"

"Gally-"

"Nah. Forget this" I roll my eyes and storm off.

"GALLY!" I hear Liv's voice yell, but I ignore it; I go to my hut and slam the door shut.

Newt's Pov

I take Olivia to the entrance of the Maze, where all the boys have gathered.

"Guys, I'm innocent!" she pleads her hopeless case.

"I'm sorry, Liv" I say, before the Keepers surround her with Banishment Poles, and start pushing her into the Maze.

"PLEASE! YOU'VE GOT TO BELIEVE ME! YOU KNOW ME! I WOULDN'T DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS!" she yells.

"It was nice knowing you" Minho says.

"GALLY!" she screams.

Me: I have recently got the books, but I still have to read them. I'm still missing Crank Palace, so hopefully I can get that soon. When I've finished my current book, I will start reading the Maze Runner books :)
