Paladin Danse X Reader

This was all just a load of shit!

There was no way this was real--

When I went to see Proctor Quinlan, Haylen had arrived and took me aside to beg me to hear Danse out.

Of course I told her I wasnt even planning to kill Danse and so with that reassurance she gave me a destination of where she thought Danse might be hiding.

And here I was...

After taking out the turrets it was eerily quiet...

I took a breath and went inside, taking an elevator down and walking into the back room...

Only to see Danse, his power suit no where to be seen.

He met me halfway and sighed, his eyes sad and hurt.

"I'm not surprised Maxson sent you, he never liked to do the dirty work himself."

He sounded so... broken.

I hated it.

"I dont- I dont understand what's going on Danse."

I didnt want to freak him out... he needs to explain to me on his own.

"Believe me, this is more of a shock to me then it is you... I didnt know."

My heart clenched at that.

"Until Quinlan got that list decoded, I thought synths were the enemy."

He must have gotten sent the results while I wasnt with him.

"I never expected to hear that I was one of them... if it wasnt for Haylen, we wouldnt even be having this conversion."

He took a breath,

"So what are your orders? Does Maxson even want me alive?"

My eyes sparkled a little with tears that I didnt let fall,

"No... but- I'm not going to kill you! There has to be a way out!"

I say,

Danse gives me a sad smile...

"Look, I'm not blind to the fact that this must be difficult for you... I wish Maxson had sent someone else. But that dosent change a thing, I'm a synth, I need to be destroyed."

I finally started crying at that.

"If you disobey your orders, you're not only betraying Maxson, you're betraying the Brotherhood of Steel and everything it stands for. Synths cant be trusted. Machines were never meant to make their own decisions, they need to be controlled. Technology that's run amak is what brought is what brought the entire world to its knees and humanity to the brink of extinction."

His eyes met my teary ones,

"I need to be the example, not the exception."

"The empathy you're showing me... that's a human emotion!"

I say, trying to convince him with a strained smile.

"I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I've made my decision. I'm ready to accept the of my true identity. Maxsons ordered you to execute me, and I'll be damned if I'm going to stand in your way..."

I regained myself,

"No... I wont do it Danse."

I said sternly.

"I cant believe you would risk your life to keep me alive... why would you do that for me?"

My eyes flooded with tears again and Danse stepped closer,
