Keith was pretty sure he was about to combust with the sheer volume of his happiness. Maybe it was uncalled for, and maybe it was a tad ridiculous, but he couldn't help himself. Pico had seemed to enjoy their little outing after all! Meaning, he wasn't completely alone in the hope that they could start a friendship! His ear splitting grin was surely terrifying to the cashier he was currently getting his groceries checked by, but he couldn't bring himself to care. What did it matter that he'd forgotten the real reason he'd come to the mall in favor of hanging out with Pico? He could get groceries anytime!
Truth was, the more that he thought about it, Keith felt unfairly needy. He felt as if he was always alone lately, and the reappearance of Pico had done nothing but cement that fact the moment he was gone. But Keith refused to admit that maybe, possibly, he was becoming just a tiny little bit attached. Because that would just be ridiculous! In what world would Pico want to be as close of friends as he did? Or, actually, didn't want to? Keith didn't want to hang out again with Pico at all. Not one bit. And no, his apartment did not feel empty and bleak without someone in it to fill the space.
Schooling his expression into neutrality so as to not terrify more passerby, Keith swung the grocery bags back and forth in his arms, shivering a bit at the quickly dropping air temperature as fall transitioned into winter. He was never quite a fan of the cold itself, but he couldn't pretend like he didn't love snuggling up in blankets and watching silly movies. However, before any of that had the chance to transpire, Halloween would have to come around. He found himself actually looking forward to the holiday for once, knowing how excited Skid and Pump must be. He'd definitely have to stock up on some candy to give them (they went to the door of every person they knew to trick or treat first, even if they lived in apartments, as he'd learned last year). He felt the grin resurface on his face again as he skipped down the sidewalk.
Another new development was he and Pico's newfound texting- or, Keith texting him five cat pictures in a row and Pico replying with either a barfing emoji or something stupid like "I like dogs better" (which wasn't true) or "It's 3 am" (as if he wasn't awake that hour himself). Still, Keith really enjoyed it. It brought a little brightness to his day to read the snarky responses when he was stuck at his job with nothing to do. Pico did love to leave him on read and only respond after Keith had sent a swath of crying emojis, though. He couldn't help it, he looked through his messages as he bounced on the balls of his feet, waiting for the bus.
