"Ironic isn't it? I know you're thinking that." He chuckled. "I was so mad that day. So done with him completely ticking me off and bullying me. I was so sick of it all. Especially when he would beat me up and lock me in the classroom. I didn't tell anyone but I was tired. So when he came to class the next day and said some awful shit something in me cracked and I... punched him. Attacked him as the police said." He muttered bitterly at the last part.
"Thank you Reuben. For telling me." And for saving me. But he understood. His light green eyes held that. "What we're you here for?"
His hair blew in the chill wind making it tickle my face. "I don't know too. I guess we both are similar that way huh? Lost." I didn't need to answer. We both knew.
And then we sat together just in our embrace letting the silence speak for us. And I felt better knowing I wasn't alone.
...
When I went to Aaron's room I saw him sitting with his head in his hands. He looked up when his door creaked as Reuben and I entered.
We stared at each other before Aaron pushed up and pulled me in the another beautiful and unexpected hug.
I could not comprehend it was him hugging me. But my arms quietly trailed around his figure and hugged him back before he pulled back and a blush crept his neck. "Where did you fucking go? I was looking everywhere." I supposed not everywhere but I would not have checked the roof myself too if it was him. Would not be able to think about it.
"She got hungry so I took her to the cafeteria and then we reported to Principal Simone about the room damage." Reuben said causally. It is the truth we just omitted the main thing. I was grateful though because I wasn't ready to tell anyone that. Maybe never.
"Right." Aaron responded fleeting his eyes between the two of us before nodding and scratching the back of his head. "I ordered burgers and shit."
A small smile grew on my face. "I guess I'm still pretty hungry." I laughed patting my stomach. "Good thing Owen isn't here to vacuum it down. Where is he by the way?" I asked looking between the two boys.
"He went home for a while and Maddie went to Cali." Aaron responded getting McDonald's out of the brown paper bag. I practically dropped at the sight of McNuggets.
I greedily took it out of his hands and tore it open before biting at one. My mouth felt amazing and humbled at me.
"Aren't you just a pretty sight." Aaron cooed at me sarcastically while I flipped him off.
"You're just jealous that you don't have my looks." I muttered chewing.
Reuben chuckled between us an amused sparkle ignited his eye before he got up. "I think I forgot to clean my microwave. I'll meet you guys later." And with that he disappeared with a Cheshire smile.
I looked at Aaron shrugging. "Who the fuck cleans their microwave?"
"People." He answered stealing a nugget from my box which I frowned at. "I bought them."
I shrugged with a small smile. "For me that is." He rolled his eyes and I took a curious look around his room. Unlike the girl's dorm they only had two smaller rooms to share but a bigger living room and kitchen. His room was unexpectedly clean and organised with his clothes folded perfect on the side table as if he'd just done laundry. "Does no one else stay with you?"
"Nope." He sighed cupping his jaw while I folded my legs on his bed and fished out another packet of chicken nuggets to give him. "Here that way you don't have the need to steal mine."
