THAT WAS OUR score. I felt my heart reverberate in my chest as I pull on my school PE shorts and shirt. The simple black with maroon with the school seal prominent on my back.
I bite my lips knowing this would be the last competition. The make or break.
And least of all I was to do this one by myself. Against Aaron who has never lost this competition in his life.
Principal Simone instructed Aaron and I the day before like fifty times.
When the commotion starts meet at the sports court. Get the first clue and then the whole school premises will be open for the next clues. Whoever reaches the end of the race first and collects the trophy from her wins. A complexion simplified.
Bending down I tie and untie my shoelaces my fingers shaking. I always got jittery before nay completion whether it be simple oral presentations or school assemblies. I sucked at either.
"Fuck." I breathed tying my laces quickly and getting up. Everybody was depending on me and I hated it. The pressure of it all.
I would rather take a math test then this. Sit with Ms. Lennon if it came to that extent.
"You good?" Madison asked with a grin. "Come on you have ten minutes."
"I feel like I'm going to puke." I admitted shakily ringing my hands.
"Relax this isn't hunger games. Just do your best." She shrugged fixing my shoelaces.
"And if I lose everybody's spirits will be crushed and Principal Simone will feel disappointed. Nothing too shabby." I gritted with a laugh.
"Relax. If we lose we lose. Tough shit. But at least we came this far. And I believe in you. Just stay vigilant and focused. Remember the girls have the brains and the patience. Now breathe." I nodded letting out air and inhaling. I was good.
This was fine.
"Alright. Time?"
Madison checked the clock in her room and locked her lips. "Five minutes. You want to eat?"
I gave her a deadpanned look and she raised her hands up in surrender. "Let's go to the sports court. Maybe the reality will calm my nerves." She agreed and we quickly got down the stairs ditching the elevator and ran through the front gates ignoring the receptionists shouting as we went behind the main buildings towards the back of the school.
The field of green stripped with white came into vision and so did the crowd. It seemed everyone came to watch. Just great.
I saw the girls first holding up posters of our teams and shouting my names whilst the boys did the same for Aaron.
